Foster family number 11, Keith thought and sighed before laying down in his twin bed and attempting to fall asleep.
Keith had been staying with his current foster family, the Duffy's, for about two months. At first he had not been planning on liking them, but he had gotten attached their grey and white cat named Freya. He enjoyed the company of his new foster sister who was in 1st grade. Her name was Aine (awn-ya). She never expected anything of him and sometimes she would just talk to him about anything and everything. Some of it didn't make sense, but having someone talk without expecting you to contribute to the conversation was everything to Keith. It made him feel not as alone.
The Duffy's house was nice and they were respectful of Keiths privacy. He had his own room and it was fairly big. About 10 feet by 10 feet. They already had a bed with no sheets, a desk, and a dresser in the room when keith got there, They had let him pick out thing to add to his room and they also painted the walls. He now had red walls, black bed sheets, and multiple posters of various bands he liked. He couldn't stop thanking them for it, He felt guilty that they had spent money on him. He liked having a room to himself though. It was nice. Keith had never had a foster family as nice as he Duffy's, but then again there wasn't much to compare them to. He had never had a horrible family like some of the kids he knew from the system. The Duffy's were just normal and nice. He liked it.
They had fostered him because they thought it would be nice for Aine to have an older brother and they had always wanted another kid, but Mrs. Duffy was unfortunately infertile. Mr. and Mrs. Duffy had explained this to Keith and confessed that they had a couple miscarriages in the past and had decided to foster.
His new school was called Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory. The name was a mouthful so he and his foster parents usually referred to it as SH. They had chosen it for him because Mr. Duffy went there when he was Keiths age and it was a Catholic high school. His foster family considered religion very important in their lives.
They didn't follow all the rules of Christianity and Keith appreciated it when they made it a point to tell him that. Keith went to church with them and even though he didn't believe in anything it was still nice to be able to sit together with the Duffy's. They had wanted him to join the youth group at their church, but Keith had kindly declined their offer. He hadn't made any friends at school and wasn't planning on sitting awkwardly with a bunch of them  in a room.
Keith laid in his bed thinking about all his other foster families and about what his biological parents had been like and whether he would want to meet them or not. They had obviously put him in the system for a reason and he doesn't blame. It was not very often that people could put up with him.
