The Freedom of a Woman
They tell me to stay quiet, because 'it is better for everyone'
But they don't know I am a descendent of the sirens, and I can destroy them with a single word.
They tell me to stay pretty, because 'intelligence isn't attractive',
But they don't know that you can be beautiful and smart, and I can use both to overpower them.
They tell me to stay smiling, because 'you look good when you smile',
But they don't know that my smile hides my hate, and I hate them enough to hurt and destroy.
They tell me to wait for him, because 'he'll come back eventually',
But they don't know that I don't want him to come back, and I warned him about my wrath.
They tell me to put other women down, because 'that will make you feel better',
But they don't know that there is nobody I love more than my sisters, and I despise their suffering.
They tell me to be careful with my love, because 'you'll get yourself hurt',
But they don't know those who say this are the one who damage us, and I am careful who I trust.
They tell me I have freedom and am lucky for it,
But they don't know that they are the ones who take it away, and that I will not be idle any longer.
