When we arrive back at the compound, I immediately know something is wrong. It is too quiet, too eerie for everything to be normal. When we walk in, the story Christina was telling abruptly stops as she takes in the silence.

"What's going on? Where is everyone?" worry fills her voice and she looks at me, awaiting an answer.

"I don't know, but we better find out." I look around. "Let's split up, we'll cover more ground that way."

"Yeah, okay." She begins to jog towards the South wing. I turn around and begin to head in the opposite direction. I check every room of every corridor, looking for someone, anyone. Every room I find empty, the more worried I become. When I come across about the thirty-fifth vacant room I hear a voice. However it's not just any voice; it's her voice. I turn around and begin to follow her voice, slowly at first because I'm not worried anymore; but then I hear a gunshot, loud and clear. I immediately take off running, full sprint towards the only person I've ever loved.

I hear a voice, Caleb's I think, call out Tris's name, and I pull out my gun. I feel the cool metal against my palm. I push myself harder, racing against time itself to get to her. All I can think is she's been shot. She's been shot. She's going to die. I cannot let her die. I turn a corner and it hits me. The devices are stored down here. My mind is filled with a million questions. What is Tris doing down her? How is Caleb still alive? How will I get past the death serum? All of my thoughts are dissolved when I come to hall where the death serum lies. Surprisingly, the serum has evaporated, and there is nothing left to kill me.

I run down the hallway and yank on the handle. It's locked. I'm relieved when once again, I hear her voice, but then a gun goes off and there is silence.
