Finally, about eight hours of operation, they told us I could see her. A doctor led us to her room, where she lied on one of those beds that looked really comfortable, but reallywasn't. She was hooked up to a machine that breathed for her, but she was alive. She was alive.
"Is she going to be okay?" Christina looked to the doctor.
"We don't know for sure. We will know more when she wakes up." If she wakes up the cruel little voice in the back of my head adds, once again reminding me that I may never see her again. The doctor left us alone with her and I sigh and sit down. I grasped her hand.
"And now what?" Christina asks .
"Now, we wait."
**************Tris************
The first thing that registers when I wake up is a hand holding my own. My eyes flutter open only to cry out in pain when the bright lights hits them. The hand pulls away from my own death grip and I hear soft footsteps heading away from me. I whimper, worried until I hear a click and I realize the lights were turned off. The footsteps return, quicker now, and my hand, is once again grasped. I open my eyes and make out a very familiar, very comforting shape.
"Tobias," I croak out. Tobias lets out a relieved sigh.
"Tris, thank God, I was so worried." He leans in and catches my face with his hands. His lips come crashing down on mine; worry and live blending together as one. I kiss him back for all it's worth. I never want to come this close to leaving him again. He pulls back and pulls me into a tight embrace. I gasp, pain shooting through my side. "I'm so sorry! Do you need a doctor?" His words are rushed, worry evident in his eyes.
"Tobias I am fine. What happened? How long have I been out?" Images of David waving a gun flash through my head. Tobias's eyes search mine, making sure I'm okay before going on.
"You've been out three days. Christina was here up until a few hours ago when I told her to go sleep. We got back earlier than planned after talking to Evelyn. There was no one around when we arrived, so we split up to look for you. I heard shouting and I came running towards you as fast as I could. I found David with the gun; I shot him before he could kill you. I carried you here and I've been here since."
"And Caleb?" Tobias looked down.
"Tris-"
"Tobias where is Caleb?" I demanded.
