ACT XI | SCENE LV
❝GHOST❞
[five years earlier]
october 2012THE BARE WALLS of the empty apartment seemed to taunt jimin as he stood in the middle staring at nothing in particular. she was gone. it was as though she had vanished into thin air. he'd searched for jangmi everywhere and came up with nothing. she had left no traces. if she was still in seoul then she was doing an amazing job of hiding. feeling emptier than the space he was in, his heart throbbed with pain. he missed her. he wasn't going to deny that he missed her so much.
he couldn't do it. stay away from her. he'd wanted to let her know. but it was too late. she was already gone. he wanted to ask hoseok but couldn't, knowing that he would never tell him. their own relationship had suffered after he'd broken up with jangmi. he ran his hand through his now black hair, letting everything sink in. he wanted to apologise and get her back and now he might never see her again.
he should never have listened to his mother. he wished he'd never left her. what had been point of letting her go when she didn't even join the dance company? he knew she'd gotten in. when he saw the envelope on her table that day he ended things, he already knew the contents.
with her talent, jimin believed she would have been the prima ballerina in no time. he dropped to the floor with a thud. when his mother first promised him a spot for jangmi in the dance company if he broke up with her, jimin had refused, knowing that jangmi was good enough to get in without sway. over thinking made him realise that if hyunjoo had enough juice to make it happen, then she could also make sure jangmi didn't get in. he couldn't allow his mother destroy her dreams. now he'd lost her and she wasn't even in the dance company.
he had no idea where she was and even namjoon couldn't get it out of hoseok. he was loyal to only her. jimin dropped his head, hair falling over his eyes. he didn't want to cry but felt like he would. he was too late. he'd waited too long. he thought of all the times he'd wanted run back to her but didn't. he pulled at the silver plated bracelet wrapped around his wrist that she had given him the year before. the only day he hadn't worn it was the last time he'd seen her. his mind drifted to everything he had said, her face, her bloody finger, the things she'd said obviously out of hurt - they'd had the needed effect either ways, it'd felt like being clocked in the face.
it took him a second to realise his phone was ringing. he reached into his pocket and pulled it out quickly. swiping the answer button, he put it to his ear. "did you find her?" he said into it. "i'm sorry, jimin." jin mumbled apologetically. "even my contacts can't find her. she's a ghost." the phone fell away from the side of his face, the rest of jin's words lost to the ringing in his ears. a strangled breath left his lips as the first tear fell. jimin cried, sob after sob wracking his body.
he let out a frustrated scream, pulling at his hair. he was burning with too many emotions at once, the tears streaming down his face unrestrained. he threw himself forward, letting his face fall into his hands. jimin couldn't remember ever crying so much for anything or anyone. he pulled his knees up to his chest, hugging them as his sobs quieted into silent crying.
he used his fingers to brush his hair back and out of his eyes. sniffling, he wiped his tearstained cheeks. he picked his phone off the floor, thumb brushing over the home button to reveal his lock screen which was a picture of jangmi he had taken when she wasn't looking. she was laughing at something he'd said about being able to make a popsicle stick house as good as the one she was building. sighing heavily, he ran his finger over the image. she looked so happy. and if she was going to leave, he wished his last memory with her was that and not her teary eyed, hurt, angry and bleeding because of him.
getting on his feet, he ran his hand through his hair. hours had passed since he walked into the apartment. he glanced at the picture again, taking in her beautiful smiling face. he'd all but told her to disappear from his life and she had done exactly that.
i never want to see you again.
did he hurt her so much that she had to leave to make sure there was absolutely no way they could ever run into each other? if the past month was any indication of how his life would become - living for the business - the chances of that happening were zero. and now that she had left the city and possibly the country, he would never see her again. he'd forced her to let go of him when he wasn't even ready to let her go.
his hand went to his pocket where the outline of the present he had planned to give her on her birthday seemed to burn a hole through the pocket and scald his skin in a taunt. his fingers weaved through his hair, grabbing a fistful of the black locks, eyes shutting as a shaky breath left his mouth. he turned around and left the place silently. he listened as the door clicked shut behind him, feeling almost symbolic. he missed her like nothing else but she gave him no other choice but to move on.

ending the flashback act with chapter louis vuitton bish! lmao i'm going back to bed. it took me five days and four nights to write the less than a thousand words that is this chapter. idk why it was so hard but i guess i was scared of being too repetitive plus i wasn't sure about jimin crying but i ended up sticking with it. does the reason he broke up with her feel too cliché? bc i feel it does and i'm really laying the evil mother-in-law concept on thick lol. it is what it is i guess.
