Ashton's POV
“Bye, mom!” I yelled from the front door.“See you tonight, dear! Have a great first day at school! I love you!” She hollered back.
I ran back into the kitchen and grabbed my lunch, which consisted of a turkey and ham sandwich, some Sun Chips, and a Dr. Pepper. I walked to school with a curious and excited look on my face, observing my new surroundings. We just got fully moved in last week. Los Angeles was mesmerizing. My mom finally got her dream job as a professor of psychology at UCLA. I missed my friends back home but I was excited about the new experiences LA would bring.
I walked into JFK High School and took a deep breath as I looked around. It was much larger than my school back home. I walked into the counseling office to get my schedule. The office was a warm, inviting blue with “Welcome! We’re glad you're here!” written in neat white lettering on the wall. A smile spread across my face as I sat down on a cushy white couch. My name was called from somewhere down the hall so I got up and followed the voice. I was met at the end of the small hallway by an elderly woman, probably somewhere in her late sixties or early seventies.
“Hi there, I’m your counselor, Ms. Hopkins. You must be Ashton!” she said with a warm inviting smile.
“That’s me!” I said smiling.
She led me to a good-sized office with light pink walls. I sat down in a white chair in front of her desk.
“Before we get started on your schedule, let me make sure I have your information correct. Ashton May Jameson. Age 17. 12th grade. Lives at 1832 West Village Drive, Los Angeles, California.”
“Yes, ma’am that's all correct!” I said with a smile.
“Fantastic! It makes my job so much easier,” she said with a slight chuckle, “it’s very much appreciated when people give me the correct information. Do you have your classes already selected?”
She gave the computer a confused look as she moved the mouse across the desk. A look of frustration filled her face, then relief.
“Found it!” she said with a smile. “If I had a dollar for every time I had a problem with this dang computer, I’d be rich!”
We both chuckled a bit as she handed me my schedule.
“Thank you!” I smiled and got up.

My voice hit a high note as I stood in front of the piano. I smiled as I finished the song I had been practicing since we moved here. I've always wanted to be in the choir, but all my electives were already filled up so I was auditioning for the glee club.
“Well done, Miss Jameson,” Mr. Gells, the choir teacher, exclaimed, “the first rehearsal is tomorrow after school! I’ll see you there!”
“Thank you, sir!”
I walked away and three girls stopped me.
“Your audition piece sounded amazing! I’m Kaley, this is Abbey and Karen.” she said, pointing to her friends.
“Hey, y’all! I'm Ashton!” I said with a smile.
We all exchanged numbers with a smile and walked away. This year was already getting off to a fantastic start.
