Chapter 17

~Rachel's POV~

I just wanted the pain to end..

I jerked away from the rod my father had pressed against my skin. My entire body was tingling with energy. I was sore and very sensitive. My skin was flushed red and scattered with bright burn marks. I could already feel blisters forming.
The questions my father was asking were impossible to answer. Only he and I knew them, and he stopped listening to me answering them. My fingers twitched and my muscles felt so tense, I couldn't move from my position on the floor.
My father walked back down those steps, the sound of the door slamming shut perked my interest. I forced myself to sit up, wincing as my clothes rubbed my skin. My father walked over to a corner of the room, rubbing his face and mumbling to himself again.
He was talking to himself, shaking his head and looking distressed. I took another deep breath, I wasn't going to let him win. Let him come at with whatever he had, he wasn't breaking me. He turned around and made eye contact with me. He walked over, holding his hand out.
I didn't take it, I just glared at him. He tried reaching for me but I sat back, dodging it. He grumbled, looking up at Bee and nodding and motioning towards the chair again. Bee listened to his instructions and got me to my feet. He sat me down in the chair, backing away.
I groaned, a migraine exploding inside my head. I squinted against the lights above me, balling my fists together. My stomach was churning and my wrists were being rubbed raw from the robe.

"Next question!" My dad exclaimed, rubbing his hands together.

He held the stick firmly in his hands as he held it up and examined in. Looking at me in the corner of his eye, he turned a dial that was on its side. I cowered in the chair, shaking my head and gulping.

He was turning up the voltage.

"I've decided...the more questions we go through, the higher the voltage."

I froze at his comment, seeing the blue sparks go back and forth from the tongs. I gulped, feeling my skin tingle from the last session. I continued shaking my head, my hands visibly shaking.

"What are you getting out of this? This is your own flesh and blood..your daughter. You really want to cause her this much pain?" Morgan asked, leaning against the table with both hands and staring at my father.

My father turned and looked at the computer, smirking. He looked bored at the agents attempts at stopping him. He knew damn well that these agents had no leads, didn't know where to start, what to do. This brought him satisfaction. He had the upper hand now.

"Now Agents...She was the one who decided to come crawling back to her daddy. Isn't that right?"

I didn't answer, staring at the floor. My father always told me I would come running back to him if I ever left. I never thought he would be right.

"Now that I have your full attention....next question."

He tapped his chin and thought for a moment. Sweat trickled down my face, my mouth tasting like I had been sucking on a penny.

"What is Charlotte's favorite color?"

Blue

I opened my mouth to shout the answer but Bee knew what I was going to do. He snatched the rod right out of my father's hand and zapped me in the chest. I cried out and threw myself backwards, knocking the chair over with me.
The shock of the fall had me stunned once my head hit the floor. I couldn't breathe, I was choking on my own spit. My hands flew to my throat, my body frozen on my back. My back arched and I could feel my face growing red hot.
Eventually, I coughed hard enough and rolled over to my side. My nails scraped the floor, saliva dribbling down my lips. Breathing heavily, I was gasping for air. My heart was beating so fast it hurt, my head spinning. My chest ached, my muscles tensing up.
My dad laughed as he watched me squirm. Surfacing under my pain and agony was anger. Flashing, red anger that pushed the pain away with adrenaline. The pain was now only a slight hum. This wouldn't last long, I had to make it count. My exhaustion was flooded by energy.
