Late April
"We're in a giant metal death trap."
"It's a plane, Lena. They're supposed to fly."
I nodded, squeezing my eyes tight and linking my fingers together before pressing them into my forehead. I took a deep breath, telling myself that planes was an entirely useless fear to have and that I needed to get over myself. "Yeah. Okay. But I'm not looking out the window. No way."
James chuckled beside me, pulling my hands away from my face and gently prying my fingers apart. I opened my eyes to look at him. "You've never been on a plane before?" He asked.
I shook my head. "No. My parents drove me down to Atlanta, and that was the first time I'd been out of the state."
LJ shook his head in mock dispair. "You poor, deprived child," he sighed, leaning his head back against his seat. "What are we going to do with you?"
I elbowed him in the stomach. "You're going to bring me to Disney World, and show me the wonders of a childhood that I never experienced," I giggled.
We hadn't even left Bradley International yet, and I already felt safer on this plane than I had for over a week at Lincoln Prep. It was like a weight was being slowly lifted off my shoulders the closer we got to being in the air.
Asher turned around in his seat, lifting himself up on his knees slightly so that he could see us over his seat. "If the both of you don't mind, I'm trying to get some sleep."
LJ raised an eyebrow. "What for? It's a three-hour plane ride, and then we'll be going straight to the hotel. You'll get to sleep all night."
Asher sighed sadly. "My dear friend, clearly you've never done Disney World properly if you simply assumed we wouldn't be getting up early tomorrow morning."
I heard Kam laugh from the seat in front of us. "Asher always wants to get up and get over to Magic Kingdom so that we can be there when the park opens. He's like a little kid on Christmas."
"One cannot get the full experience of Disney World if one is not there when the park opens," Asher sniffed indignantly. "Uncultured swine."
Kam swatted at him, laughing, until a flight attendant came over to tell Ash to sit right in his seat because we would be taking off soon. It was late on a Friday night, and there weren't many people on the plane. Just a couple of families, and one old couple toward the front of the plane. I figured that wasn't bad, for my first flight; it could have been packed with people and screaming kids.
"You sure you'll be okay?" LJ leaned over, his voice low so the others wouldn't over hear. I took his hand, nodding softly before resting my head on his shoulder. He pressed a kiss to my temple, smiling gently.
"Passangers, please fasten your seatbelts and prepare for take-off..."
"See, I told you. Wasn't that bad," LJ said as the five of us walked out of the Orlando airport and into the humid night air. I yanked off my sweatshirt as Asher ran into the middle of the street to hail a cab, and LJ threw his arm around my shoulders.
"No, not so bad," I agreed, tying my Lincoln Prep sweatshirt around my waist and pulling my suitcase up beside me. Ash waved us into the road, where he'd managed to get a cab to stop, and we all stuffed our luggage into the trunk before piling into the car. Ash sat in the front, leaving Finn, LJ, Kam and I to figure out the seating arrangement in the back.
"Lena's smallest," Kam ventured, gazing into the back seat thoughtfully. "She could sit on someone's lap."
I raised my eyebrows, figuring she had to be joking. "Yeah, sounds like a great idea," LJ smirked, wrapping his arms around me. "I'll totally take one for the team. She can sit on me."
I reached around to smack him, huffing indignantly, but finally agreed that yes, it was much easier to do that rather than try to hail a bigger cab, and no, it couldn't be that awkward, seeing as we were dating.
Needless to say, it was one of the most mortifying car rides of my life.
It was nearly midnight when we checked into the hotel. Asher talked to the guy at the front desk, as everything was reserved under his name, while the rest of us wandered around a bit in the lobby. I hadn't even seen the rest of the hotel yet, let alone any of the parks, and I was already amazed by everything.
"Alright, everyone," Ash said, coming back over to us with two sets of room keys in his hands. "These are to the girls' room, and these are to the guys'. Connecting door in the middle, but seperate bathrooms, which I thought you would appreciate, Kammy dear."
She stuck her tongue out him, snatching the room keys from him and handing one to me. Asher passed out the others as we headed to the elevators, pressing the button for the sixth floor.
