the hunger games

chapter one

I see my prey, I grab a knife and prepare to throw.  Just as I am about to let go my small black and white cat jumps in the way. I freak out, my knife is aim towards my cats head, it's aimed to  kill my cat. I stop, drop my knife and fall to my knees. My cat walks over and nudges my leg, I give her a pat and grab my knife again. I stand up prepare to throw, I release the knife and I jump in the air yelling yes as I do so. 

I walk back over to the fence, the spring heat beats down on me as I walk, Casey trails alongside me, her tail swishes around my legs. The fence doesn't take long to cross and after a short while I cross and head straight to the butcher to trade my deer for some chicken. When I finally head home after a discussion with Mac who cant keep his mouth shut. The chicken is cradled in my hand as we don't often have much to eat, my cat is still at my side, it doesn't take long for us to get home. I open the door and I just stand there letting the scent fill the nose, home. My little sister, Lucy runs over and hugs me she is only Seven, one less person to fret over. Lucy looks up at me, I pass her the chicken, she looks at it hungrily and runs into the kitchen where she puts it down.

My mother cooks the chicken on our old run down stove, she places the steaming hot chicken on the table and Mother, Father, Sister, my cat and I sit down for dinner. I tear a bit off for my cat she eats it. Casey does not get much of this stuff here in district 12. 

After dinner I tuck Lucy in to bed she looked terrified. I told her its okay I will not and I mean not be chosen tomorrow, and with that in mind she falls asleep.

 I leave the room and go to my parents. Even they are worried about me being reeped, I am sixteen this year so my name has been put in the reeping twenty times. I know I am going to be sent there is no chance I can't be chosen,  but I cant let them know that, so I stay strong. For them and admittedly I'm also trying for myself.
