I watched the falling of the leaves, it was finally autumn. My favorite part of the year aside form Christmas.

There is just a certain joy autumn brings that I can't explain.

Maybe it's the transition of the leaves from green to orange and yellow,

Or the way the leaves feel as they gently fall in your head,

Or the gentle caress of the wind wherever you are,

Or maybe it reminds me of the time I spent with a certain boy.

A boy whose dimpled smile and radiant personality always remind me of the beauty the orange and yellow leaves complement the bark of the tree.

Whose warmth personality makes me feel like the fresh autumn air

Whose memories I so dearly cherished,

Who I lost through the situation.

A situation,

Blown so much out of proportion,

Maybe it's my fault,

Maybe it's his,

Maybe it's both,

Or maybe it's none of ours,

Maybe we were just a victim of the situation,

Whatever it is though,

I'll always remember that boy who provided me my escape from the Gehenna that is known as Cliché.

"Hey E, have you been waiting here all this time?" My friend Rory asked as he approached me.

I just smiled in reply.

"Anyway, He bailed out. The nerve of that guy. He was the one to ask for a blind date and he bailed on the last minute. I'm really sorry. Do you want me to take you home?" he asked.

"Nah, its fine. I think I'm just gonna stay here for a while" I say as I watch two boys heading over the field with a baseball bat.

"It always follows you, huh?" a vaguely familiar voice said making me look up.

"What does?" I answered dazed.

"Cliché" he answered.

"Nah, I'm cliché-free. Have been ever since the September of 2008" I answered making him smile.

"And what happened on the September of 2008, if you don't mind sharing that is" he said taking a seat beside me.

"Well I met a certain boy who made me realize that sometimes the way we see things shouldn't be the same way we should perceive it" I answered.

"I taught you that" he said awed.

"Who said anything about you? I was talking about Danny Jerkinson" I teased.

"What are you doing here all alone?" he said after laughing.

"What are you doing here? Last I heard you live on the opposite of the world" I remarked.

"I tried moving on. Like everyone said we should. And I uh... This is embarrassing, but we were supposed to meet here but I uh was actually going to bail but as you can see I'm here while he is nowhere to be found, not that I'm surprised really. We were supposed to meet an hour ago. I dunno. Why I even came here. To see if he would wait I guess or maybe because of the guilt. I shouldn't have done that" he said looking far away.

"Why did you?"

"Ditch?" he asked.

I nod.

"His name is Ezekiel and I dunno. I just feel like meeting him was kind of tainting your memory because I know no one would be half as great at you are" he said making me smile.

"Maybe he's even greater. You don't know that. You haven't even given him a chance to prove you wrong" I said still smiling.

"Well I'm glad I missed him anyway"

"Why?" I inquired.

"We wouldn't have met again" he answered smiling that dimpled smile of his.

I rose and said "You're right. We wouldn't. We wouldn't have met under this circumstances. An hour late to our date. Come on you douche. Let's go"

He stood up and looked at me weirdly before blurting out a "You're kidding!"

I laughed and said "You're lucky, Rory told me your last name or I would've left an hour ago"

"What? How did-I what? How did this happen?" he exclaimed.

"Come on. I'll tell you over coffee" I said grabbing his hand.
