Chapter Two
2010 Springdale, Utah
Nicholas slowly turned on his heel, his eyes wandering around the whole neighborhood. He voice, quivering ever so slightly, he shouted, "Who's there? I know you're here!"
He waited for a response, but there was nothing. The only sound he could hear now was the frantic heartbeat pounding against his chest and his uneven breathing. His two deep pools of chocolate scanned his neighborhood once more, flooding over the still and inanimate life before him. Nicholas shook his head, muttering under his breath, "It must have been my imagination..." He ran his calloused hand down his face, exhausted. And just as he lifted the garage door, he heard a sneeze.
Nick jumped, surprised. "Okay, what the hell? Who the hell are you?" He said, waving his arms beside him, dumbfounded. Then, his eyes locked on a familiar pair of two oceanic marbles staring back at him from the fence. His eyebrows weaved in together, his feet slowly shuffling through the grass and toward the cedar fence. "I know you're there..."
He leaned in and peeped in through the small cracks between the fences. At that moment, he felt the air inside him heave up and get caught between his throat, hindering him from breathing as he stared right at the ocean itself with the waves crashing unto shore all within two orbs. Nick noticed her dark lashes that seemed to go on forever as well as her lush, cherry lips that shamed even the red, red rose. Enthralled, Nick swallowed down the weightless lump of air in his throat and breathed, "Who are you-"
Before he could finish his sentence, the girl scurried off toward the back of her house and disappeared from his view. Nicholas just watched her run away from him, her beautiful brown hair swaying back and forth in sync with the wind. She was so...untouchable.

Nicholas cocked his head, his eyebrows knitted in confusion. He ran to his mother and tugged on her skirt gently, "Momma! Momma! I saw something over there." He said, pointing at the fence where he had seen a pair of azure orbs.
His mother smacked Nick's hand and chided, "Nicholas, you shouldn't point."
Usually, Nick would be indignant if his mother had scolded him, but right now, he was too distracted. He whined, "But, mom! There was someone over there!"
Nick's mother sighed, tiredly and bent down, her eyes leveled with Nick's. She pushed Nick's brown curls back, holding onto his hand. "Honey, listen to me. It was probably the neighbor's daughter."
Nicholas raised his brow, arching it up toward his forehead. "Daughter? I didn't know Mr. Cyrus had a daughter,"
His mother stood up now, smoothing down her skirt. "Well, she's sick, so he doesn't like to talk about her much. So, don't you dare bother him about her, okay? Now, go and play with your friends," She said, patting his back, giving him a slight push.
Nicholas smirked to himself, his lips curled up mischievously, eager to take on the challenge
