Logan POV
Past through the wall-to-ceiling windows, out in the front of the school, the sun shone brightly from above, filling the ground with light. Flower petals flew past in the calming breezes of spring, eventually floating down onto the school sidewalks, littering the ground with bright colors. At Solis Academy, everything was, as always, nothing out of the ordinary, that is, if you have powers like me, like the rest of us that go to this school.
Well, at least it was as normal as it gets here. I've walked down these halls to my classes every single day, and never once, has anything ordinary happened, at least in your eyes. There was always something different every single day. It's always duels, disputes, fighting, performing, loud conversations... Basically, what you'd expect from a school of magic. Perfectly normal.
As I walked down the halls to my next class, I spotted Ace. He's a... friend of mine. We're on pretty good terms, but many see us as rivals. It's a friendly rivalry at the very least.
Ace was fast-pacing through the halls, probably hurrying to his class when suddenly a thick and sturdy-looking arm stop him in his tracks. A deep and low voice spokes out, silencing the hallway, "Little rascal, where do you think you're going?"
"What do you want?" Ace responded in an irritated tone, checking his watch.
"What do I want? I want you to go back to hell, isn't that where you came from, you Logan-wannabe?"
Next thing I know, Brutus, the bully, shoves Ace backward, he and his group of friends laughing like idiots. Ace just sighed and turned his back towards the bully, trying to get to his class.
"Hey punk lets fight, or are you too scared?" Brutus snickered. His friends start making "oohing" sounds and saying dumb stuff that they thought would provoke Ace. After ignoring them, he checked his watch again, his eyes widening. He looked up straight at Brutus and give him the death stare, his eyes shooting stabbing daggers, then he just turned and began to walk away.
I was about to run after Ace when suddenly, a huge clang resonated in the air. It was an ear-splitting roar that sends shivers down my spine. The bully was now holding a huge, green hammer.
"Soul weapon against soul weapon, let's see what you got, you little brat." he said, swinging his large hammer skillfully in his left hand. As people began to crowd around, cheering, I awkwardly joined the crowd, watching from behind the increasing wave of people.
Ace took a glance at the crowd and simply sighed, as he knew there was no way out of this fight, at least I thought that's how he thought about it at the time. The crowd formed a nearly perfect circle, and they weren't leaving anytime soon, not while this fight was going to happen. Ace placed his hands in front of him as a white aura started to surround his entire body. The aura swirls to his hand and produced two perfectly whole revolvers. As it took form, it was revealed as Dual Ruger Single Nine 22 Magnum Revolvers, with Karambit blades on the bottom. A pretty nice weapon, and a special one at that. Weapons rarely have more than one of the five categories combined, but his were both ranged and melee. There are five categories that a soul weapon can be sorted into, Melee, Range, Magic, Telekinesis, and Summoning.
The bully stared, wide-eyed at the weapons. I noticed him gulping, just a bit, his Adam's apple moving up and down gently, barely noticeable. He must have heard of Ace's strength from all of the rumors, but still not have ever seen a weapon such as that. I smirked, he's in for a bumpy ride. He shook his head, as if shaking off his fear, I could tell his arrogance have returned. "Bring it on," he said, the corner of his mouth curving upwards into a crooked smirk, with a tone that hinted not confidence, but cockiness.
Brutus pulled the first move, charging after Ace and swinging his hammer at him at a horizontal right. Ace quickly avoided this, his movements so fast that you can barely see them, not that Brutus' attack speed is very fast. He stepped back as his lips said a few inaudible words. The bully then swung again, this time vertically from top to bottom, huffing and puffing from the weight of the heavy hammer.
Ace quickly came to a conclusion and predicted Brutus' next move successfully. As he swung to the right once again, Ace, instead of shifting backward, like last time, slid under the hammer and sliced his leg with a Karambit blade. Blood seeped out of the wound, crawling slowly down his calf.
Brutus screamed out loud in agony, falling to one knee as fresh blood drips on the floor. Ace quickly stood up and mercilessly stabbed his left hand, making him drop the hammer. Ace simply walked and stood behind the bully and pointed the barrel of his gun at the back of Brutus' head.
"Surrender." Those simple words had so much meaning behind them. The bully looked at the crowd with embarrassed eyes, but everyone was stunned into silence. Even the bully's own goons were shocked, looking at Ace with pure fear and terror within their pupils.
"How?" Brutus asked, still whimpering from the pain, confused on how he was defeated so easily, in less than a minute. I was very impressed and delighted to see that.
"Simple. From the beginning, you held it with your left hand, which told me that you were left-handed. After that, because of the weight of the hammer, I could tell that you can only swing it in two ways, horizontally and vertically. Because you were left-handed, you'd swing right, and you'd only swing from top to bottom because it's easier. So, in short, I calculated your movements." Ace said in a monotone, as if it was no big deal. I sighed, he was always the smart and clever one.
The bully, Brutus, was marveling at how Ace could've been that strong and calculated. "I... surrender." He said, with a gulp between the words. He and his goons quickly get through the crowd, leaving trails of blood.
When Brutus was almost gone, Ace shouted back at him, making Brutus turned back around, "And next time, don't make me late to class. Ever. Again." Brutus just nodded quickly and runs off.
Ace sighed. He spun the guns on his finger, the blades dangerously close to his wrist as they evaporated into a white aura, swirling back to the place where it came from, surrounding him.
I stepped forward and patted Ace on the back, "It's time to go."
"Logan," Ace sighed heavily, glancing at me, "have you ever felt like people are just trying to make you late to class on purpose?"
"Yes, I have," I laughed, "Now let's hurry to class, we're already running late."
