You ever read any of the "The Genius Files" books by Dan Gutman? Nope? Well, lemme fill you in on the details.
Basically, these two kids, Coke and Pepsi McDonald, went on this week-long road trip with their parents to go to a wedding. Coke and Pep happen to be part of this group called The Genius Files, where kids with special qualities are selected to solve the world's problems in replacement of adults. The program was initially started by Dr. Herman Wersaw, a major smoker who came up with the idea after witnessing the Pentagon attack on 9/11. The program was such a good idea... on paper.
In actuality, the program ended up falling through, and as a result, Dr. Wersaw needed to get rid of it. Which, to him, meant killing all of the TGF kids, including Coke and Pep. So basically, the entire series (it's a 5-book series, if I recall) is them travelling across the country (and back) in a RV (well, for most of it) while Dr. Wersaw and his recruits do everything they can to kill Coke and Pep. Of course, every single time fails because Coke and Pep are smart, resourceful, and lucky.
The series ends after Dr. Wersaw is kicked off the Golden Gate Bridge (I could be wrong on that one, it's been forever since I've read this series), and he falls into the river below and drowns. The McDonald family never dies, and they all live happily ever after from there on out.
...but what if Dr. Wersaw DIDN'T die?
That's right. You can kinda consider this story a "fanfiction" of TGF, exploring what might've happened if Dr. Wersaw didn't actually drown.
A lot of this story is going to include references (including characters) from The Genius Files, but also occasional new ideas here and there. I do not own any of said content, all rights go to Dan Gutman. Also, I will make sure that any places mentioned in this story are real.
Now, The Genius Files did inspire the original SKA book, but that ended up being complete and total trash. This is actually going to be similar to my original idea for SKA (with the exception of different characters), but I scrapped it and ended up going with a Hunger Games-style story. But trust me, this one will be better written and also a bit more interesting (not to mention, A LOT longer).
Anyways, now that I've got all that preliminary explanation out of the way, let's get to the actual story, shall we? I like that idea a lot better.
With that said and done, let's begin. Enjoy!
