Song: Unlike Pluto - Everything Black
//Septiishu//
This is gonna be really dark, so don't read if you are easily disturbed.

Signe's POV

My parents always told me to be careful of the monster on the street at night. Not only when I was a kid. Even when I was older. I didn't really think much of it until the killings started when I was 17. Always the same thing: young women brutally murdered with no evidence found. Not even fingerprints. One person died every two months for 4 years.

It didn't affect me personally. Until one of my friends died.
It was in September. She was found dead in an alleyway. Like everyone before her. I was shocked. I had talked to her the day before. The worst thing was that I had to write the article bout it. Her funeral was a week later. After it ended I sat down on a bench at the graveyard.

-Hi! Are you okay?
I heard a male voice say next to me. I looked up. It was someone I hadn't seen before. He had brown hair and blue eyes.

-Not really... Jessica and I were close friends.
-Sorry for your loss. I'm Sean, by the way. I was friends with her too.

Sean... She did mention meeting someone named Sean a few months ago.

-My name is Signe. Nice to meet you... I guess...
-Do you wanna get some coffee? Maybe it would help you get your mind off of the negative things.
-Sure... Thanks for trying to make me feel better.
-No need to thank me. I always try to make people feel better.

After that we met more and more often. Sean was charming, kind and always positive. No wonder Jessica became friends with him. We became friends too... And a little more.
Every time we met, I asked him a question:
-Sean... If that monster on the streets tried to kill me, would you protect me?
I always got the same answer:
-Of course I would. I would even sacrifice myself for you. I love you.

I asked it, because I felt unsafe. I felt like I was gonna be the next victim. I constantly felt like someone was watching me. Even at home. I only felt safe when I was with Sean.

It was November. 9 PM. I was about to go over to Sean's house, as usual. It was walking distance from my house.
I locked the door, as usual, then I walked down the stairs. The streets were empty. I took a deep breath and started walking. I was terrified. When I heard something I started walking faster. I was running by the time I got to Sean's apartment. I ran up the stairs and knocked on the door.

As soon as Sean opened it I hugged him tightly.
-Sean... I'm so glad I got here, I thought I was gonna die...
-Shhh... It's okay now. Do you want me to lock the door?
-Yeah please...
-OK. Sit down, I'll make you some tea in a sec.

We chatted until I calmed down. He was as sweet as usual, but something seemed off about him. I brushed it off as paranoia.
He told me to go into the bedroom, he'll come in a sec, he'll just put the teacups away. And he did exactly that.

He came into the room, closed the door, and locked it.
-Well, Signe...

His voice sounded different. It was deeper, and somehow... Sinister. I got a pit in my stomach.

-It looks like you weren't smart enough.
-Sean? What are you talking about?
-Oh, you know it. Deep inside you always knew. But you couldn't accept it.

I start shaking as the realisation hit me. The monster I was afraid of was right next to me the whole time.
-Th-that's impossible! Y-you promised that...
-You really don't get it, do you? The truly scary thing about the monster isn't that he's animalistic or that he jumps on you at night on the street. He seems normal. He gains your trust and manipulates you. You never know which one of your friends you can trust. Looks like you made the wrong decision.
-No... Sean you're better than this!
-You might think that. But I only get worse.
-I love you!
-You think that's the first time I hear that sentence? You think that it will change what I do? This is not a fairytale. Life doesn't always have a happy end.

I can't believe this. He's gonna kill me. I have no chance. Tears stream down my face.
-You're a monster Sean!
-It's not the first time I hear that either. It's the twenty-fifth.

He starts running towards me. He pins me to the ground. I close my eyes I've never been more afraid in my life. And I'm never going to be...
-Goodnight Princess. You were my favourite so far.
I feel a sharp pain in my chest. I try to scream but I can't.
-I... Love... You...
I say with my last breath. Then everything goes black.

The next morning

Two policemen were in the alleyway. The red and blue lights of the police car behind them.
-She shouldn't have died. How old was she?
-Hold on, I'm looking though her pockets still... Ah! Found it! Her ID. Umm... Signe Hansen, 21 years old.
-Damn... Anything else in her pockets?
-Still checking...
He pulled out a little black thing from one of Signe's pockets.
-What's this?
-It's a... Voice recorder... Why did she have one?
-She was a journalist. Is there something on it?
-Lemme check... Yes!
-Play it!

-You're a monster Sean!
-It's not the first time I hear that either. It's the twenty-fifth.

-Goodnight Princess. You were my favourite so far.
-I... Love... You...

-She recorded her death...
-Holy shit! Do you get what this means?
-We found the killer!

(Yeah... This was dark... I swear I'm not depressed or a psychopath XD BTW the change to writing in present was on purpose. Everything I write has a purpose)
QOTD: Are you optimistic or pessimistic?
I'm between the two, but rather optimistic.
