Derek snapped blinds of window down of the clinic, flipping the sign from open to closed. He was substituting for Scott, since his friend was doing some of the paperwork in the adjacent room. Deaton had profusely refused to let him do it, but Scott was too nice for his own good.
He didn't really mind it, though. He actually liked taking care of the dogs. But he left the cats alone because they were only friendly to Scott and to Derek...not so much.
Derek didn't work at the vet, but he's known Deaton for a long time and he's always happy to help occasionally.
He walked out of the dog kennel room and was about to head to the sink, when a knock suddenly came from the door. Derek raised an eyebrow, his wolf senses tingling on high alert. He unleashes the claws of his one hand and hides it behind his back before opening the door. Out of anyone to be there, he didn't expect to see Allison on the doorstep, tears streaming down her cheeks when he opened the door.
"Are you oka-"
"He didn't see it, I distracted him by changing his music and he turned his eyes away from the road to change it back just for two seconds and then this dog, it just came out of nowhere and..." Allison interrupted his attempt at being civil.
Derek really didn't want to be there at the moment. Comforting people wasn't really his thing. Making people squirm under his gaze was more his forte. "What's happening in here?" Another voice appeared from behind Derek.
Oh good, Scott could help. The crooked jaw boy's gaze fell to Allison, his eyes visibly softening. "Allison? What are you doing here? It's really late-"
"She almost killed a dog." Derek interrupted bluntly.
Allison broke out into another sob again, and Scott glared at Derek for being so terse. He edged closer to Allison, holding his hands out hesitantly in attempts to comfort her.. "Hey, it's alright, it's alright, it's alright...do you remember where it happened so I can find the dog?"
Allison sniffled. "No! I mean, well yes, I remember where I hit it but the dog is..."
"Where? Where is it?" Derek asked impatiently. If there was a hurt animal somewhere, he wasn't going to let it die when they could help it. Scott frowned at his friend. "Calm down Derek."
Allison nodded her head pointedly to outside. "Its outside."
Derek followed Scott and Allison outside to her car. "Allison did you get help-" Stile's voice calls out from against the car. His eyes widen when he spots Derek and Scott.
Stiles felt Derek's stare on him and glanced up at him. He quickly parted his eyes away from him to look at Scott. "I didn't know you worked here."
Scott gave him a 'really' look. Stiles suddenly recalled Scott telling him about his part-time at a vet. Scott usually sounded really passionate about his job, and Stiles was surprised it had slipped his mind.
Allison lifted up the trunk of the car, where a loud bark erupted from inside.
"It's okay, she's just afraid..." the dog kept barking loudly, and Scott glanced over at Derek pleadingly.
"Let's see if Derek has any better luck." Scott stated, subtlety ushering Derek to do his thing.
Derek rolled his eyes and bend over in front of the dog. His back was to the rest of the gang, so they didn't catch when he flashed his werewolf eyes at the dog. The animal immediately calmed down, its barks dissolving into few whimpers.
Derek helps Scott to bring the dog inside, and Stiles and Allison trail behind Scott and Derek as the two lead them into the vet office. Derek laid the dog on the exam table.
