"If it is

Meant to be

It will

Be."

Julie's POV:

Once I ate the chocolate and put the note in my bedroom, I started making dinner. I didn't do too much, just spaghetti and meatballs homemade. I learned to make that with my dad. He had a special recipe, I'm the only other one who knows it which makes me feel happy.

Once the spaghetti was done, I mixed the meatballs in. Then I put half on one plate and half on the other, so that my mom could have some and she wouldn't starve. Sometimes I wish she could look after me, instead of looking after her.

I knock on my mothers door. "Mum? I'm coming in." I open her door and quietly walk in.

I was surprised to find she wasn't there.

I put the plates down and check the bathroom, only to find out she isn't there either. I start to panic. She never leaves her room. She hasn't in almost two years. Where could she be?! I quickly pull out my phone, unlocking it and dialling her number. It rings four times. Nobody answers. I get an answering machine.

Starting to pull on my hair, I look around, crying. I see a white piece of paper on her bed. I scramble over and shakily grab it. Once I get it open, I see my mothers writing.

Julie,

It is with a heavy heart that I tell you this. But, for a while, I've been leaving the house when you weren't home to get drugs and alcohol. I'm addicted and not able to pay back right now.

That is why they threatened to come after you, and now I need to keep you safe. I'm going away for a while. I have arranged for you to stay with someone, you know them but you won't see him. You can't see him because you'll want to leave.

I'm sorry dear, I really am. I hope you understand. I love you. It's better this way. A taxi cab will come and pick you up at 7:00 and will take you to your destination. You can't know where it is, but it'll be a good hour and a half drive. I arranged for you to be homeschooled there.

I will see you soon. Stay safe and give him a chance.

And just like that, the letter ended. She started drugs and alcohol because of what happened with my father? Or was she doing that before it happened? I don't even know my own mother anymore.

It's 5:00.

My ears are ringing. I'm having a hard time breathing. Everything is blurry, and then I black out.

~~~
When I woke up on my mothers bedroom floor, it was around 6:30. That was twenty minutes ago. I warmed up my spaghetti and ate it quickly. And now I'm packing all of my stuff in the multiple suitcases my mom left me.
I pack most of my clothes, shoes, jewelry, all of my makeup, all of my chargers and headphones, a couple posters, and my books. It took me about ten minutes.
Around seven, I heard a car honk outside. I roll my suitcases outside and the cab driver helps me put them in the large trunk. His name is Frank.
~~~

An hour and forty-two minutes later, I arrived at a house in the middle of nowhere. No other houses around it. No stores or diners around.

It's a huge house, far too big for only two people to stay in. But it looks nice. There's horses and cows and chickens. I've always wanted to learn how to ride a horse, maybe I'll learn here. Maybe this won't be so bad.

But maybe I'm wrong.

Frank helps me carry in my suitcases, smiling at me before heading out the door.

"Wait! Don't I need to pay you?" I yell to him.

"He already took care of it, Julie. Enjoy your stay." Frank smiles kindly before closing the front door. Never to be seen again. I sigh and look around the house.

"Well, I'm here!" I shout. "And I don't know where I'm going. So can someone help me?"

As I say that, a small lady walks through the doorway. "You must be Julie! I've heard all about you. Hi. I'm Victoria. But people call me Vicky." She says sweetly. It's now that I notice the walking stick she has. She's blind.

"Hi ma'am. Yes. I'm Julie. It's nice to meet you. Would you like a hand?" I smile, even though she can't see it.

"No I'm fine dear. He'll be down after Warren shows you your room to help me." She laughs sweetly.

"He?" I ask with a confused expression.

"You're not allowed to know who he is. Lets call him Voldemort."
