"Oh look! A rose." Jesse exclaimed, plucking the red flower from its place and admiring it. He showed it to Petra, a smile on her face. The garden outside the Masquerade had many different kinds of plants and flowers, but this one seemed to stand out.
"It looks pretty Jesse." She replied, stepping a little away from it.
"What's wrong? Don't you like flowers?" He asked, giving her the flower. She immediately recoiled.
"Sorry Jesse, I forgot to tell you. I'm allergic to-ah-" Petra sneezed, not loud at all, actually pretty quiet.
Jesse gasped. She looked at him apologetically.
"Your sneeze is adorable!" He said, smiling widely. At his words, the redhead's cheeks turned bright scarlet.
"Jesse-"
"Do it again!" He said, giving her the rose as Petra traveled backwards.
"No! Jesse-! Stop!" She replied, laughing and running away as he chased her with the flower.
After a few moments he caught up to her, wrapping his arms around her with the rose as they laughed. She tried to break free of his grip but he was too strong.
"Jesse stop! I can't-ah-choo!" Petra sneezed again and Jesse cheered.
"Yay!"
She huffed, and folded her arms, cheeks red and Jesse's arms still around her.
"Jesse, my allergies get really bad..." Petra sniffed, her voice a bit heavy. She looked at him with pleading eyes.
He immediately let go.
"Ah! Sorry Petra." He apologized, smiling sheepishly. She giggled and then ran away from him.
"Gotcha sucker!" She exclaimed, smirking and heading toward the other end of the garden. Jesse's eyes widened and he ran after her, realizing he'd been tricked.
"Hey!" He cried playfully.
When he was about to reach Petra she pointed something at him-a hose. She smirked again and aimed.
He froze, putting a hand to his chest.
"You wouldn't."
"Karma's such a bitch, isn't it?." (A/N: sorry but I couldn't resist!)
Then she turned on the hose on full blast as water burst out like a geyser. Jesse shrieked and dodged, but not before getting hit in the chest with water. Petra laughed and turned off the hose, putting it away.
Jesse was looking at his suit in shock, and then he turned to Petra.
"Hey! That wasn't fair!" He said, putting on a pouting face. She laughed again and looked at his half-drenched suit.
"Fine, I'll make it even." She replied, and then gave him a quick kiss on the cheek. His cheeks turned red.
"I can't believe I fell for your cuteness." He murmured, amused. Petra winked and leaned her head on his shoulder.
"You always will, dork."
Jesse put his arm around her and Petra flinched as his wet suit touched her arm. He chuckled as she rolled her eyes.
"Come on, let's head inside. There are no flowers, and definitely no hoses."
Petra laughed.
*"*"*
Inside, excitement and noise greeted the couple as they put on their masks. They held each other's hands as to not get lost through the crowd. The two entered the ballroom.
Dozens of couples twirled and swayed with the music.
Jesse looked at Petra as she rubbed her arm. She answered his question before he could say it.
"Sorry Jesse, I'm not the dancing type."
He shrugged and smiled, squeezing her hand gently.
"It's alright. How about we get some food?"
She sighed with relief.
"Best idea I've heard all night."
Jesse lead her to the room with the food, treats stacked upon plates and dishes filled with scrumptious items. Petra shut her mouth in which she didn't know was hanging open. He noticed and chuckled, smiling.
He opened his mouth to speak but before he could, Petra was dragging him through the people and towards the food. He apologized sheepishly as his date continued to pull him along, earning dirty glares from some of the guests. Good thing they had masks, no one would recognize them once this was all over.
"This looks delicious." Petra said, staring at the table of food in awe as Jesse grabbed two plates and handed her one. She nodded her thanks.
"What are you feeling?" Jesse asked, looking at the variety of choices. He decided on a croissant sandwich. "I think I'm feeling this sand-hey!"
Petra grabbed his wrist before he could reach for one. He looked at her in surprise and confusion.
"What was that for?" He asked as she let go of his wrist. "I was gonna eat that sandwich."
She smirked and tsked at him, waving her finger.
"We eat dessert first." Petra replied slyly and began piling different desserts on hers and his plates before he could protest. A few moments later their plates were filled with cupcakes, brownies, cookies, and other small pastries.
"But we're going to get full for the real food." He whined playfully, that sandwich still on mind. She flicked him on the nose.
"That's the point, doofus." She exclaimed, chuckling. "Come on, let's go eat. I'm dying to try some of these little cookie thingies."
(I meant to post this yesterday but oh well)
