I sat in the chair my mom had me in, frozen in fear as she brushed my hair. "It's going to be fine child. This is to find the one who is going to love you forever. You should be happy." My mom said.

"I don't want a mate. He could be abusive, and demanding. Or worse... He might reject me." I said. She gave me a smile. "That will never happen. He will love you. There. Nice and soft." She said.

She finished styling my long brown hair. I don't know why she is doing this. I'm going to be running in the woods for four days.

Oh let me explain.

I turned 16 last week. So tomorrow in joint in the annual Mating Games. Where males of the paranormal chase us until they find there mate. Actually, where they choose their mate.

When a male from the paranormal mate dies their soul chooses the next choice.

I stood when she was finished.

"They will provide you a outfit, and your supplies when you arrive. Just trust your heart. It will tell you if the one who picks you is your other half." She said. I nodded.

I hugged my family, and left to my doom.
