Chapter 1: His eyes
If I wasn't really bored, I wouldn't have come here in the first place. I feel so alone even though my best-friend Clara is sitting beside me.
"Earth to Anne." She said while snapping her fingers in front of my face.
"Would you stop doing that? It's so annoying!" I yelled. She raised her left eyebrow. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to shout at you like that. It's just that... never mind." I wanted to tell her about my dreams and how I haven't slept in two days.
"Oh well, somebody woke up on the wrong side of the bed today. It's okay Anne. We're cool. You look like a zombie by the way." She took a sip of her diet coke and wink at me."I'm going to the bathroom to freshen up. I'll be back in a shimmy." I wish she wouldn't say shimmy..that's not even a proper thing to say. As I look at myself in the mirror, I realized that someone was behind me.
"Hi." he smiled as he took the seat to my left. He's wearing a semi-clear white shirt and border short. Long lashes framed his dark blue eyes his hair was messily arranged, maybe in purpose? It suits him. I have never seen this guy before.
St. Barbara is a small town and I know most of the faces who lives here. Who is this guy? Maybe he's new to the town.
"Hey." I replied. "Uhm, actually that seat is taken." I realized that he's a total 10. I mean you can see his muscles underneath that clear white shirt. I felt myself blush as he rose to his feet and comes near me.
"Really? I'm sorry. It's so rude of me. Oh! I forgot to mention my name. I'm James." he replied. He's so close to me that I can totally smell him. Soap, coffee and summer. He totally smells delicious.
"Not interested." I whispered. What the hell is wrong with me? I am totally interested but I feel like someone is inside of me trying to push me to say the words.
"I'm sorry? Did you say something?" said James. Is he deaf? I hate guys being cute and flirty but when they realize you're not interested they'll just ditch you for somewhat reasons.
"I said--" before I can say the words Clara interrupted me.
"Hey hottie! What's your name?" she said while pouting her lips towards him. Did she just call him hottie?!
"Uhm, hi. I'm James. I was just saying hi to your friend...?" he stared at me; he was waiting for an answer.
"Anne." Clara replied while chewing her bubble gum. I gave her my I-AM-SO-GOING-TO-KILL-YOU look.
"Anne." he repeated and I swear I saw something in his blue gorgeous eyes."What a pretty name."
I felt heat rushed through me. "Thanks" I replied. Thanks? I thought. What is wrong with me? "We're just heading out, right Clara?" I shot her a look. I hope she got that.
"Or, we can stay for a while?" she looked at me and gave her "puppy" eyes which I never understood considering her eyes are so evil. No offense to Clara.
"Fine. I'll just go to the washroom." I muttered. I grab my bag and hurried toward the washroom. As I turned around to see if they're flirting with each other, I saw his eyes following me. It's just so strange, I feel like I've known him for a while even though I just met him.
Calm down, I thought. I just met him right? That's impossible, but there's something about those eyes of his that's trying to tell me something. I washed my hands and hurried back to see if he's still there but when I got there Clara was smiling enthusiastically.
"So...Where's the guy?" I asked out of curiosity.
"He left. Did you know he moved to the house next to yours? The one that belongs to Mrs. Whine? I know insane right?! He was totally checking you out girl." Here we go again. Clara is my best friend in the whole universe. I've known her since I was in grade four and I know exactly what she's going to say.
"Oh, no! You didn't!" I look at her furiously hoping that she didn't do what I think she did.
"Oh c'mon Anne! Live a little. It's not like he's a serial killer, right? I mean it's just your number." She smiled and winked at me at the same time. If I didn't love her so much, I would've killed her a long time ago. She always does this to me.
"I knew you would do that! I had the 'feels'. You always do this, Clara. This is the last time you're going to do this or else, I'll be mad at you and you don't want that." I pinched her arm and she was definitely sorry. I can tell.
"Ouch! What was that for? He's totally cool. I know you like him, I can see it in your eyes! Speaking of eyes, James' eyes are gorgeous. It's so mesmerizing and captivating! Someone's blushing." she replied looking at me with excitement.
"Oh stop it! Let's go to my place and hang out for a while. No spying on the neighborhood." I warned. Since I was 5, there's always someone new to the house beside us. People said it was cursed some people say it was looking for its right owner. I've always wonder which one.
As we headed back to my place, I saw him carrying boxes. Clara told me to give a hand and be a nice neighbor and so I did.
"Do you need a hand?" I asked. I realized my voice is kinda' shaky. There's something about him that makes me nervous.
"Hey! Anne right? Where's your friend?" he replied. No, I thought. He's interested with Clara? I felt the heat rise up to my neck.
"What do you mean? She was just--" I looked back and Clara was gone. I can't believe she just ditched me! I am so going to kill her."Where did she go?"
"So, you're my new neighbor. It must be really nice here. So quiet." he brushed his messy beautiful hair and looked right into my eyes. There was a spark or a volt of energy which I can't explain.
"Yeah, well. I can call Clara if you want to talk to her?" I asked.
Please say no, please, I thought.
"Nah, it's okay. She's cool but keep this between the two of us; I'm not interested." he whispered to my ear. I felt my cheeks burn, I hope it's not obvious that I'm blushing. I gave a little laugh but decided to cut it off. Clara is my best-friend and I should be on her side. Right?
"Oh, I see. Are you gay?" I lifted my hand and put it over my mouth. I didn't realize what I just say. He makes me nervous. I thought he was going to say yes but instead he laugh. He laughed so hard that I started to laugh too.
"I'm sorry? You thought I was gay? That's why." he grinned. What am I suppose to say? Oh, you're not interested in Clara even though she's perfection? She's pretty, sexy and smart. I mean who wouldn't want that!
"That's why? What do you mean?" I finally replied. I realized he's been staring at me for a while. Not in a creepy way though.
"Well, I was definitely flirting with you earlier but you didn't seem to respond likely. Maybe you thought I was gay and decided not to be interested. I don't know." He grinned at me. I can see his dimples and how good looking he is when he smiles.
"Flirting?" Oh. I felt heat rush all over my body. I perked away. I noticed that our body were so close to each other and I couldn't look away from those eyes. They're so beautiful.
"Yeah. I was, wait, are you telling me you're a lesbian? Uh-oh." he smirked while teasing me.
"Oh no. My goodness! No. Well, this have been really weird." I giggled and got up to my feet, ready to leave. "If you need any help, it's okay to knock."
"Thanks. This conversation of ours has been really fun." He smiled at me like a kid who just saw a giant lollipop.
"Sure. Yeah. 'Kay, bye." I smiled decently and walked backwards. I ran toward my house and saw Clara winking at me.
"Well, that wasn't so bad right?" she grinned then she closed the door.
"I am so going to kill you!" I shouted and saw her running in my back yard."And, where do you think you're going?"
"Away from you!" she yelled. I chased her around and finally caught her. In all fairness, I should have thank her but instead I tickled her until she cried and finally said sorry.
I knew that this summer was going to be the best summer of my life.
I was alone staring to the shore thinking how my life used to be then suddenly I heard a gun shot.
I felt numb.
I saw James running towards me, yelling my name but before he reached me: everything went black .
