Chapter 10: The Note
"What do you mean blank?" I said curiously.
"It's blank. NOTHING." she looked at me and I knew she wasn't lying.
"Wha--How--What the heck?" I muttered. I grabbed the paper and stared at it for a long time, but nothing happened. The note didn't appear.
"Are you sure it's the right one?" she raised her eyebrow.
"I am sure. After I found it in the beach, I put it in my pocket. You were in the ambulance when I read it. I swear there was something here. I am not lying. I put it between my favorite books." I argued. I am positive that the threat was written there.
"It's blank though. Do you think she changed it?" she suggested.
"How did she get in? No. I don't think so." I started. The house was exactly the same when I left and when I got back. I don't think 'K' came here and changed it.
"Okay...then how? Can you explain this?" she wondered.
"No. I can't. There must some magic involved in this paper." I suggested."I mean, how can something disappear?"
"It's okay James. You don't have to over think about this. I'm sure she did something in here." she gestured to the blank paper.
"Maybe you're right. I don't know what to think anymore." I confessed.
"It's okay, James. You remember what the note says right?" she asked slowly.
I can't tell her, she'll worry about me. I can't lie, she'll know I'm lying. I have to tell her. I have no choice but to tell her.
"I remember everything. Like, it's written in the back of my head." I responded.
"Just tell me then." she demanded.
"No." I said out loud. I don't want her to worry anymore. She's been through a lot. Especially, if it's about her parents and me.
"What do you mean no?" she asked furiously.
"I can't. I just can't. You've been through a lot Anne. I don't want you to worry anymore." I continued.
"James, I have the right to know. I almost died because of that stupid woman or man! I don't even know who I am anymore. I don't know if I can take it. I don't, so tell me what does the note says because I depend on it. So JAMES tell me!" her face is so serious and red.
I know she's mad. I know she wants answers to all of her questions.
"Okay. Fine, but promise me something." I requested.
"What is it?" she asked calmly.
"You'll stay there. Don't run, don't scream. Just don't do anything stupid." I commanded.
"Okay. Just one thing, use your mind please?" she asked kindly. I nodded then continued.
"I'll never stop. You'll suffer and the one you love. Whoever loves you will die, I'll make sure of it. I started with your parents and now it's James turn. I can kill him anytime I want. What do you think, Mellow? -K." I thought to her. I watched her cry and it's painful. I don't want to see her cry, it hurts. Seeing the person you love the most crying? I shook my head and hugged her.
"I'm sorry." I finally said out loud. I lifted her chin up and wiped her tears away.
"She killed my parents and now she's planning on getting you. Everyone I love will die, everyone who loves me will die. This is all my fault." she sobbed.
"I'm sorry about your parents. And this is not your fault." I mumbled.
"James, I can't risk you. You're the only person who loves me truly." she stood up and looked away. She started to walk towards the door.
"Are you breaking up with me?" I hold my tears and walked after her."Please, don't do this Anne. I can't."
"No, James. You can. Everything will go back to normal. I love you James. I really do." tears fell from her eyes but she wiped it all out.
"If you love me then don't do this." I felt my tears running down from my eyes. I can't help it. I love Anne with all of my heart.
"I have to. I love you, you'll be safe my love." she kissed me hard like it was the last kiss I'll get from her. I kissed her back but she let go. Then she 'messaged' me with her mind.
"I will never stop loving you. Thank you for loving me. I will always love you James, always." she kissed my cheek and wiped my tears away.
I watched my world walk away.
