finding shadowkit

ashpaw's P.O.V~

ashpaw was sorting herbs. " catmint for bad coughs, cobwebs for bleeding...", ashpaw was muttering under his breath.

as he was sorting a massive pile of herbs, brackenfrond burst into the medicine cats den, scattering the pile of coltsfoot.

"shadowkit and Cherrykit are missing. ", brackenfrond gasped. "I can't find them anywhere."

ashpaw remembered Cherrykit and shadowkit walking past the medicine cats den, whispering to shadowkit. dirtpool calmed brackenfrond down.

"we'll find them brackenfrond, don't worry. ashpaw will you give her song thyme for the shock and two poppy seeds please.", dirtpool asked, her voice cracked with age.

ashpaw got the herbs from the back of the store and directed brackenfrond on how to eat them. dirtpool led her back to the nursery so she could sleep and ashpaw stared fixing the coltsfoot pile.

"ashpaw, time to go to the moon flower.", dirtpool meowed. ashpaw walked being all of the medicine cats. the kits hadn't been found yet and everyone started to panic.

ashpaw knew Cherrykit. but where would she go? ashpaw almost past the moon flower before he realized that he was so deep in thought that he hadn't noticed that they were there.

"before we begin I would like to give ashpaw his medicine cat name.", dirtpool meowed to the assembled cats.

"I say these words before the ranks of StarClan so that they may welcome this new medicine cat with us. ashpaw you have learned plenty of valuable skills do I would like to give you the name of ashcloud because you were always one step ahead."

"ASHCLOUD! ASHCLOUD!" the medicine cats purred. ashcloud curled up and ate a petal off of the moon flower, purring as he fell asleep.

a horrible smell clogged ashclouds nostrils. the wind blue bits of debris into his face. a white she cat with black spots came up to him. she had stars in her fur so ashcloud could tell she was a StarClan cat.

many foxes sat in a dark shadow that looked about the shape of a kit." to find shadowkit you must pay close attention to what you see here.", the white she cat with black spots meowed.

ashcloud studied the foxes. then he studied the shadow. "uhh did shadowkit get trapped by foxes. the white she cat with black spots showed more. there were Fox traps.

the shadow seemed to fill in the fix trap and the shiny part of the Fox trap tightened around the shadow. ashcloud gasped. "they are stuck in Fox traps!" ashcloud confirmed.

the white she cat with black spots nodded her head and started fading. "wait! who are you!" ashcloud wailed. "I am brambleberry. former medicine cat of RiverClan." brambleberry replied.

brambleberry had faded away and ashcloud was blinking open his eyes. the other medicine cats were already awake. "good you woke up.", poppybreeze of SnowClan meowed. "I thought we were going to have to drag you back home."

"sorry, I had a really interesting dream. we need to get home. fast" ashcloud said quickly. when the other medicine cats had split up ashcloud told dirtpool about his dream.

after ashcloud finished the story of his dream, dirtpool meowed, "well I'm sorry ashcloud but you'll need to deal with that by yourself because when we get to camp I'm going to move to the elders den.

ashcloud stared at the elderly medicine cat in astonishment. he knew that dirtpool was older than the oldest elder in the clan but he couldn't believe that the reason he got his medicine cat name was because dirtpool wanted to be an elder.

when the two medicine cats got back to camp, they headed for graystars den. dirtpool walked in first with ashcloud on her tail. "hello dirtpool, ashpaw." Graystar meowed.

"um it's ashcloud now." ashcloud told the young leader. Graystar nodded his massive gray head and apologized. ashcloud launched into the story of his dream again and when he finished Graystar walked to the highest branch of the sky tree and yowled, "I need all cats old enough to leap into trees gather beneath the sky tree for a clan meeting."

the clan blinked sleep from their eyes and gathered at the sky tree. Graystar told the clan where they could find the kits and started organizing a patrol to search for them.

"heatherpelt, spottedleg, blackpaw, pricklepaw, brackenpaw, ashcloud, fernface.", Graystar yowled to the cats. "I will search for my kits with them.", said Graystar.

before the patrol set out, dirtpool hissed, "why ashcloud?" Graystar rolled his eyes at the elderly medicine cat and told her that they would need a medicine cat to rescue the kits and that ashcloud was young and could keep up with them easily.

the large patrol vanished through the fern tunnel and ashcloud was excited to find the missing kits.

soon after they set out, the tang of blood filled up the air, tainted with the smell of shadowkit.

soon the reached Fox trap cove, a place where twolegs set traps to get rid of foxes. ashcloud saw an oak tree with a strange looking trap underneath it. because it was leafall, a think covering of leaves was littering the ground under the trap.

ashcloud dug into the leaf pile until he saw a red lump lying on the ground , the shiny trendil wrapped tightly around the lumps neck.

digging frantically under the trap, ashcloud worked hard to loosen the trap. when they dislodged the trap from around shadowkit's neck, ashcloud picked up the bloody kit and started back to camp.

before he entered the fern tunnel, ashcloud had spottedleg make sure brackenfrond was asleep in the nursery. when spottedleg confirmed that the cost was clear, ashcloud trotted into the medicine den and layed shadowkit into a warm nest.

ashcloud ran his tongue over shadowkit until the tiny body was warm and clean again. ashcloud checked the unmoving body for any signs of breathing.

shadowkit was breathing very shallowly. the wound on his neck was infected so ashcloud chewed a petal of marigold into a pulp and placed it on the inflamed wound.

just as shadowkit was about to join the ranks of StarClan, he felt the trap loosen around his neck and he gasped for air. shadowkit couldn't open his eyes but he knew that it was ashcloud who had saved him.
