Why?

Dear Nobody,

There have been many terrible events going on as of late. It feels as if the world is not safe anymore and as though we must always look over our shoulders. I do not want to talk about anything specific however, I feel this is something that should be said, even if no one else reads this...it feels good to say it where there is a possibility it could be read.

I do not believe in fate, I believe in enlightenment where people have control and can change their lives with their decisions. Its something real and something I've seen to be true. No one is destined for failure, unless they put themselves in that situation, then it would be inevitable.  However, success is not always guaranteed even when you do your best.

Sometimes people succeed in hurting others and even when we do everything in our power to stop and prevent them, we can fail in saving those who ended up hurt. I am not in any way saying that this is okay, because it is not, however it is a part of life.

We can grieve for those lives that were lost because of someones reckless use of a weapon. We can cry and hurt because we are human. What we cannot do or rather shouldn't do is ask why?

There are many excuses that people say to defend their hurtful actions and those answers are not always what we are looking for. We can sit and analyze them and try to understand why. What good possible excuse do they have to steal the life of another? I will tell you. There is none.

When you kill the monster, you become the monster.

Many people are quick to judge the shooter. What about blaming the lack of regulations on who can have access to guns? The people who make these guns more common in our society is what makes these shooters so dangerous.

DO NOT miss the point. I am all for guns, but, not everyone can handle owning and shooting a gun. There are so many people in this world who are easily overcome by their emotions and their irrational side. Those people cannot even control their own bodies and chose to physically fight other people with their own bare hands. Why on earth would you give them a gun?

I am not saying we should take away guns altogether. That is not the answer. People who want to hurt people will find a way to hurt them with or without a gun. We should take these shootings as a sign of doing something different with our gun regulations. It is not going to stop these people from hurting others...but at least it wont make it easier for them to take action. We are all so consumed with our rights to have a gun that we do not stop and remember not everyone should be allowed to have a gun. I mean not everyone should even be able to freaking drive! (Yes, I am talking to you people who do NOT use your damn turn signals. RETURN your license.)

Something is not for everyone. There are many other ways to protect ourselves. Lets find them and stop relying on these machines that make it that much easier to kill.

There should be a whole process; a background check, psychological analysis, practice on shooting range, lessons on safety use of a gun, practices of self defense so that using a gun is a last resort. If you are against this...I wonder if its because you are one of the people who would fail this process.

I bet you are asking, well, what if the bad eggs pass all of that and still hurt people? Well, not every system is perfect, but at the least, there will be less reckless people with access to guns.

As I have said before, I believe in Enlightenment, that people control their own lives with their decisions. We cannot control other people and their actions, we can only control our own and to how we respond to the situation around us. Instead of asking why this happened, ask what can we do to prevent this in the future. There is no point in asking "why" other then a false sense of closure. The real closure is in our actions to stop the shootings from happening in the future. It wont be easy and it's success wont always be guaranteed but isn't it worth a try?

Sincerely,

-ThatOneGirl
