and like a piece of
driftwood,
i was left,
floating,
in the bottomless ocean
of your heart.
but i was lost,
and you had long since
extinguished the light
that had shown me
the way.
so i strayed,
into the
cold
dark
depths,
water choking my lungs
and seaweed,
like cold,
knotted rope,
twisting around my neck,
around my heart,
until i was blue
to the bone.

because you
could never
love me
without
drowning
me first.
