like a fool,
i let you come back,
in the midst of your newfound
heartache.
you showed me your pain,
the chisel on your armour,
that was nothing like
the scar
you left me with -
the scar
that you never stitched up,
that you left bleeding,
that made me feel ugly
inside and out.
i was a fool
to let you fall back
into my arms,
and back
under the sheets,
where your cotton smiles
were so thin
and easily unravelled,
that they had disappeared
by morning.
