Journal Entry #64
December 8th, 1941
" It's gone. I'm such a fucking idiot. For trusting him. For believing in him, putting my faith in him. Today I was informed that at 7:55 a.m. A plane bearing the symbol of the Rising Sun of Japan appeared over Oahu island in Hawaii. 360 warplanes followed its lead. They attacked our naval base in Hawaii, Pearl Harbor. The surprise threw off crew members and civilians near by killing 2,400 and injuring 1,200. 5 battleships, 3 destroyers, and 7 other ships were sunk. 200 aircrafts demolished. I take a lot of pride in my boys, they are heroes among the people but this was not a military fight. This was a venomous snake encroaching on its prey. They killed people, innocent people. I'll never forgive him. Never."

England
It had been a few months since I had last spoke to anyone other than my allies and even that was getting harder and harder to do, with the capture of France and Russia fighting in his homeland, sometimes it was just myself and China sitting there silently waiting for the others who never came. The war wasn't getting any better, in fact in was only getting worse as the months struggled by. Months, that's how long ago it was that Alfred talked to me of wanting to join the war but still nothing had come of it. We really could use his help right about now. Recently the higher ups have told me of a devastating event that might just draw the war line for America. They want me to go over to try and convince him to join. It was horrible I mean something devastating had just happened and the next day they want me to go over and try to get him instantly to join the war.
But still I arrived on the 8th in Washington DC as I approached his house on the corner of the street. I knocked multiple times without receiving an answer, the front door wasn't even locked or closed so it slowly opened as I applied more force. It was dark inside but the light from shining off of the snow outside gave the living room an eerie glow. The only thing worse was that the place had been turned upside down.
"America?" I asked stepping into the house to see the actual damage. His couch had been flipped across the room, coffee table shattered to pieces. Papers, books, letters scattered everywhere.
"Alfred!" I shouted becoming more and more worried. Walking around the broken furniture in the living that's when I saw it lying shattered on the floor, a broken picture of Alfred and a formidable foe, Japan. That's when I knew it t wasn't a break in but a break down. I could hear what faintly sounded like crying through my good ear. I proceeded down the hall and past more broken furniture to a room Al used as an office.
"Alfred?"
I opened the door to find an even bigger disaster zone, government papers scattered everywhere, food wrappers and empty bottles of what use to be filled with liquor. " my god he looks like me" I frowned as I thought to myself.
"Arthur?"
He looked at me from his position against one of the desk drawers on the floor.
" Oh Alfred." I shook my head and kneeled down to his height, he proceeded to wrap his overly large self around me , engulfing me in his bomber jacket. The crying started a minute after that but I still tried to wrap my broken arms around his torso, they didn't go very far.

America
Damnit all to hell. I'm crying like a poor bastard in front of a man I once looked up to. I flailed my arms around him out of instinct and cried, waiting for him to make a remark about the past.
" Oh Alfred." He said as he rubbed my back. Which didn't help much.
" Yesterday, December 7th, 1941 - a date which will live in infamy. The United States of America was suddenly and deliberately attacked by naval and air forces of the Empire of Japan." I mumbled out into Arthur's shoulder.
"What?" He questioned
" Roosevelt, he went on live radio at a press conference today and that is what he said."
"Arthur we are going to war."
There was a silence in the room, I knew why he was here. He heard the news and was here to either comfort me or sign me up for a war already decided.
" It was decided today in congress, the Senate votes 82 to 0, the House 388 to 1." He ran a hand connected to his unscathed arm through my hair.
"Well isn't that good? Bittersweet revenge?" He raised his head above mine.
"England I loved him, he was my friend. Or at least I thought he was?" I frowned to the older nation.
"We all have friends on the other side don't we, some have destroyed our cities but haven't we destroyed theirs?" He made a valid point, when I enter this war a can't promise there won't be cities and villages destroyed, lives lost.
"But I understand, the frustration of losing something you took pride in, and the sorrow you feel to lose your people to a cause you didn't initiate ."   He smiled sorrowfully which only made everything worse.
" You're looking a lot better you know."
" yes I'm finally out of a wheelchair and crutches, though this cane is a pain in the arse!" He said motioning to the chair behind us where a simple wooden cain laid.
" Makes me feel like an old man."
" You ARE and old man." I chuckled as he tried to push me off of him with his shoulder.
" Bloody idiot, don't talk to me like that!" He said his eyebrows scrunched.
" But you don't look a day over 25." I said cupping his face in my hands and smiling a little. His face was flushed but he didn't move away in disgust.

England

His hands were cold, from the ground or the open window I couldn't tell. My cheeks were warm as he smiled down at me but he looked pale with contrasting puffy red eyes from the frustration and tears. I hadn't even realized it was so cold in this house. The window was open and the heat from the fire wasn't roaring. He looked cold when I looked in his eyes, blue jaded oceans scream at me for revenge or hopefulness.
"Alfred you are so cold." I said breaking the awkwardness
" Sorry I wasn't really in my right mind today I didn't even realize I had all the windows open." He laughed removing his hands from my face and rubbing his neck.
"Well then, help me up and I'll start the fire and make a pot of tea-"
"Coffee?" rolling my eyes I agreed as he slowly helped me up and made our out to the living room.
"I'll... put the place back together?"
" I swear sometimes you act like a bloody grizzly bear." I snorted sitting down to start a fire. A click was heard signifying that the front door had been closed. I'm glad he was finally calming down and thinking straight, well for Alfred at least.

America
I stared at the side of him as he smiled at some unknown thought for a minute or so. When he started moving again is when I realized I was staring. When I began to straighten the couch out I realized the coffee table was broken.
"Damnit I really liked that coffee table." mumbling as I frowned.
"We can just get you a new one." A soft voice came from behind where England was. The glow of the fire licked his face, it was really pretty.
" Yea your right." I smiled to myself and began picking up books and papers, cramming them on the shelves. England stood up almost too fast before grabbing his back and wincing a little. He turned to the mantel and flipped the picture of Kiku and I over grabbing the excess glass that had broke off. He rushed to the kitchen after that as if he forgot about making coffee.
I returned with two bigger blankets and found him sitting on the couch, his shoes nesting by the door under his scarf and jacket.
"Sorry I went to clean my office and grab some blankets. Cold?" He just looked up and gave a half smile.
"Yea, thank you." He reached to the side table and handed me a cup of coffee as I sat down .
" God it's been a while since I just sat down by a fire and relaxed. By the way why don't you use heating?" I looked up and smiled.
" I don't like it, or understand it really. I mean I have it I just prefer the fire more."
" Who is the old man now?" He laughed pressing his head against my shoulder. It was quiet for a while, nothing but the sound of the crackling fire.
"I'll have to go back soon, to the war I mean." He said quietly clutching the mug in his hands.
"I'll soon join you, all too soon." I retorted making the silence return.
" God this world is burning, truly burning."
" I'll be fighting in the pacific and soon even the western front."
" Alfred you'll change this war."
" it's too early to say that."
" no I mean it, think about it Alfred, the Allies are in deep shit right now we are barely hanging in there but you, you are our new hope. Everyone might always treat you like the bloody git you are but you have no idea the trust they have in you, that I have in you."
" Arthur are you feeling ok, this is strange even for you." I turned to look at him falling asleep. I hadn't realized until now how bad the bags under his eyes were, most nations don't need sleep but he had been through hell and back.
" Alfred you can't begin to understand how much trust I have in you. I'd put my life in your hands, my men, my people, my country." He murmured slowly before falling asleep next to me. It gave me time to think about the words he just put in my head. He trusted me, people trusted me.
"I'm going to end this war. I promise"
