Dear Seal,

It's the first weekend! The whole week has been crazy. This morning I had Potions with Professor Snape. He seems scary, but I think he'll be okay if you treat him with respect. He seems to have been the type to be made fun of. He's the head of Slytherin. My potions partner is a Slytherin, his name is Tobias, you'll be able to meet him eventually. Anyway, Tobias said that Professor Snape scares him. We worked on the potion to cure boils. Tobias and I were the first ones done and Professor Snape said it was "Acceptable" so we took it to Madame Pomfrey- the school nurse, and she said if he thought it was acceptable than it was perfect. I spat in it.

And there are so many strange things about the castle! So much magic! Even for things that aren't magical. Like yesterday, I had Defense Against the Dark Arts. I can't remember my teacher's name. He's new to the job this year. Most of the students said that he wouldn't last till next year because no teacher had kept the job for more than one year for decades. It's cursed.

My roommates are pretty cool. Vanessa is not a morning person, and she doesn't leave the room until she looks perfect. Liz- Eliza, but she hates the name, so everyone calls her Liz, is really nice, too. She's one of those people who speaks her mind, no matter what you might say about it. I think it's a respectable quality.

But that's not what you want me to say, right? You want me to complain about why are you not here? and I wish you would be able to come already and I miss you so much! Right? Well, I do miss you, and I can't wait to see what you think about everything. I hope that you'll be in Ravenclaw. The dormitories are beautiful and I absolutely love the common room. You can see everything from the windows.

I best be going, dinner is soon and I haven't seen Liz or Vanessa yet.

Love, your cousin,

Dromi

P.S. The owl is Sasha, Vanessa's owl. Give her a treat and ask her to send your letter back.

"Sasha," Andromeda says, walking over to the cage and opening it up for her. "Would you send this letter for me? I promise that my cousin will give you a treat. I told her to, and normally she does what I tell her. So if you're alright with it, would you please take it to her for me?" She holds the letter out to the lovely little tawny owl. Sasha 'hoo's' and sticks her leg out for Andromeda to tie the letter to it before flying out the open window. "Thank you!" Andromeda calls after her. She checks her reflection in Vanessa's mirror, pulling at her cloak that still seems damp from the bog water that she spilled on it. She walks over to her desk and opens up her Standard Book of Spells, Book 1. She flips to the back of the book and looks through the topics. Water, move, float, multiply, create, no, none of those. Ah, evaporate. She flips to that page and reads, "Point your wand at the object, person, etc. that has water on that you wish to evaporate, then say 'Inarascare', pronounced in-are-es-car." She leans back from the book and pulls out her wand. "Seems simple enough," she points the wand at herself and says, "Inarascare." She watches with interest as the dark spots on her robe lighten to the normal black color. "Huh, useful."

She tucks her wand in her pocket, assuming she wouldn't have been the only one to need it, and heads down to the Great Hall for dinner early. When she goes down a flight, a moving picture catches her eye. Now, all the pictures were technically moving, so, to be more accurate, this one swung. The picture in its frame seemed to swing back into place against the wall. Fascinated, she walks over to investigate. Nothing around the edges of the picture frame looks out of the ordinary. She steps back to look at the picture, a woman reading with a crocheted lavender shawl.
