I may cry ruining my makeup
Wash away all the things you've taken
And I don't care if I don't look pretty
Big girls cry when their heart is breaking

Fairest of them all. That was her mother. Or what her mother claims to be.

Before Evie went to Auradon, the only thing that was suppose to matter was her beauty. Growing up, she was taught 3 things: cook, sewing and putting on makeup.

Those 3 things were what her mother would say as essentials for winning a prince's heart.

As if winning his heart would matter, all her mother really cared about was for Evie to marry a rich prince. The Evie Queen would hoped that it would win back her title as queen.

For her whole life she was taught that all she had to be was just to be beautiful and that's how to win a prince.

That all changed.

That all changed when she and the other villain kids were invited to Auradon.

She found things that she didn't know about her self.

Her passion for sewing and fashion.

How amazingly smart she was.

That she didn't need a prince to make her happy.

Her mother might have not done physical abuse on her but she definitely hurt her daughter in a way that can be fixed.

Mentally.

'Your make up looks hideous.'

'One eyebrow is bigger than the other, Your foundation isn't blended well and you still have a unibrow.'

'You're getting fat from all that food you eat.'

'No one cares about how smart you are sweetheart. Like a prince would care about your knowledge.'

'Now make your worthless self useful and get me a mirror.'

'You need to lose weight.'

'Keep that up and a prince will not want to marry you.'

'Who would be stupid enough to marry someone like you?'

Evie would hate to admit it but those words felt like a stab in the back. She tries not to let it get the best of her. Although, it's like she can hear her mother's voice in her head telling her the things she needs to be like her.

During class when she knows the answer, but she hesitates to raise her hand; thinking that people will think of her as a know it all.

How insecure it is when people see her without makeup. The girl would wake up at dawn to perfect her makeup. Heck, she even hates it when her best friend Mal sees her without it.

But what people mostly notice about her is how she almost seems to starve herself.

People see the way she doesn't want to eat a lot. Taking a few bites and giving the rest to her friends. She claims to be full but everyone knows that it's because she doesn't wanna gain weight. A few bites will make her self conscious about how much she is eating.

It's like she can hear her mother telling her how fat she is, that she needs to lose weight.

Even though she is almost skinny to the bone.

Her friends notice how insecure she can be and they try to tell her how beautiful she is. That she is more than what her mother tells her she is. Of course they do understand how she feels. After all living in the Isle caused them to have insecurities.

It also toughened them up. Taught them to hide their feeling behind a mask.

Though inside that smile and under the layers of makeup there is a teenage girl wishing she was good enough.

Her mother pushed her to find a husband. A rich, handsome prince. She could honestly care less if they fall in love with their daughter. It didn't matter if he only loved her because of looks. In fact she told her daughter it's ok if that's the reason he marries her. As long as Evie married a rich and handsome prince that's what matters.

And that's what mattered to Evie too.

Well, until she met Doug. He made her see herself in another way. Made her feel beautiful even without her face caked with makeup. Made her feel like she belonged.

Her mother wouldn't be happy to find out her daughter is with someone who wasn't a prince. In fact she would be outraged if she heard that.

Not that Evie would care anymore. She was happy with Doug. That's all that matters.

Being in Auradon taught her new things. She found out her true self.

And she learned that

She was

More than just a pretty face.

Not even close.
