Arielle followed Shantel into the kitchen walking fast trying to not make any unnecessary noise. Her silver eyes searched the room for hiding spots that seven people can fit into. She was not going to be split up from her family.
"Why are we hiding? We should be out there fighting" Rai eyes sparkled similar silver, a frown pulled at her eyebrows.
Arielle and Rai both controlled the element of Air, and their eye color reflected that. Jazzmine controlled Water and the boys Fire. Arielle rubbed the heel of her palm against her breastbone, feeling empty without her element like she knew the rest of them did. She still didn't know how the Kazamas took their elements from them. Without them they were as vulnerable as a human and had to rely on their human strength.
"They are no place to hide all of us." Jamar said scratching his head. He was thinking the same as Arielle.
"We have to split up," Jazzmine spoke then went toward the pantry door.
Spilt up?! Arielle took a deep breath calming her racing nerves. It'll work, it'll work. She chanted looking around the kitchen her gaze met each one of her family members.
"It's going to be okay, it'll work." She whispered to the group feeling the need to calm them in some way.
Denise face slowly eased out of its tense her green eyes was grounded and calm like her element of earth. So were Shantel's but churned with power and leadership.
"Three of us can probably fit in here." Jazzmine bright blue eyes grew big.
She opened the pantry door and stepped in pulling Jamar and Javier over with her. Arielle still looked for somewhere to hide her eyes zoning in on the bottom cabinets that the rest could squeeze into.
"We can hide inside those cabinets?" She told the rest of them it came out as a question.
Her remaining family looked at her in surprise except for Rai who knew that Arielle wasn't as quiet and aloof as she looked. Arielle fought not to blush but did anyway and looked away twisting a fist full her dress in her hands. Stop looking at me! She silently beseeched.
"Yes! I think we can fit in those cabinets." Shantel nodded. "Find a cabinet to hide." She commanded.
Arielle whirled around when she heard numerous voices coming from some feet away. Dread started to work its way into her stomach like a ball of lead. She closed her eyes and prayed they would make it. The voices grew louder until Arielle could hear them coming from the dining room and heading straight toward the kitchen. In a panic, she turned back around to see everyone hidden except her. She ran toward a cabinet under the sink and squeezed her 5'0 height into it. She tried not to gag as the smell of antiseptic and bleach invaded her nose and Arielle prayed they didn't have rats or roaches.
She could hear the voices loud and clear now as they entered the room. Through the crack of the cabinet she could tell that someone had flicked the light on brightening the kitchen.
"I told you I was just getting something to drink."
Arielle took a sharp intake of breath. Sasha. Oh my god! It's going to work. She closed her eyes fighting away panic. Just a minor incident but this is going to work.
"Then get one" A male voice came after.
Arielle heard shoes skidding across the floor like someone being pushed. Then there were numerous noises of pots and pans being rattled. Arielle's heart thumped against her chest. What does she do, sit here or help out?
