Chapter Two

Present~

BANG, BANG!!!!!!

The sound of aggressive poundings echoed throughout the room breaking the silence and wiping her dream away like an eraser on a white board. Her silver eyes popped open in an instant and her eyes was met with a white sheet. She blinked repeatedly trying to drag herself into consciousness. What the heck was that? She thought. Her breathing came in short pants making her chest heave up and down fast and it felt as if her heart jumped into her throat. As she sought to breathe normally, she pried her thoughts.

Confusion clouded them and she shook her head and swallowed the lump. But the shake of her head did no good. Her brain was moving slowly into a waking state while her body was up and alert. What the heck is going on? She thought again, nearing panic. Adrenaline was soon pushed through her veins making her body quake.

She tore the covers from over her face and a moan slipped from her lips. She dropped her arm back on the bed with another moan as her stiff body sent pulses of pain into her. Her body was sore from the crunched up fetal position she slept in. She lay still as blood filled her deprived muscles, peering around the room. Darkness covered it from inch to inch except for the window at the far right that invited moonlight, scaring away the shadows. The bed shifted under her weight, its springs groaning, as she raised her head from the flattened white pillow.

The scan of the room was quick from the tiny space of it. Generic white walls and sparse black furniture surrounded the place. This place was one of the rooms she'd had gone accustomed to seeing and sleeping in for the past year and a half no matter what the location. She'd never stayed longer than a couple months then she was back on the move living life in another room like this one.

She rested her head on her propped up elbow and strained her ears to pick up any sound that the place made. The only sounds she heard where of the wind and rain pounding outside and her shallow breathing from being interrupted from her sleep. That she found the peace to finally sleep for more than a couple hours was amazing with all that was happening and running around she and her family had to do. The dream bore no nightmares and sadness just black nothingness that allowed her to slumber peacefully. Now she was brought back into the darkness of this room that was filled with panic and pain.

Two doors branched out from the room and she was facing both. One door led to the small bathroom and the other was the front door to the outside hallway and her planned escape route. Only one was lit by a yellow light underneath it, in the direction of the sound she had heard a few minutes ago.

A glow of silver light shone in the room as sat wide eyed on the bed. She was frightened about the sound that woke her. An icy breeze swept her hair from her eyes and traveled down the length of her body mimicking her fear. She shivered as goose bumps broke out on her skin and squinted at the front door. The silver light in front of her cut to a line when she did. She sat still for a moment breathing deeply. It would do her no good if she panicked. She closed her eyes and filled her lungs with the cold air around her. With each decrease of her heart rate the air warmed and soon faded. When she opened her eyes the silver light went away as she knew it would and all that was left was the yellow light from underneath the front door.

She sat straighter up in the bed wondering if she should reach for the switch to the lamp or not. Biting her lip she glanced at the identical bed that was in between her and the front door, thinking. She was finally deciding to keep the light off when something caught her eye. She jerked her eyes to the yellow light. A shadow moved in front of the light and her ears picked up the sound of feet shuffling. Then the shadow murmured a curse and then she heard the sound from before. She jackknifed up as the door was being banged on again. Get up! She coached her body. She threw the comforter off and stumbled from the bed.

Instead of going towards the door she moved left to her bag that hung off the chair by the small square table. Her jeans she slept in were stiff making it hard to move quickly. The silver light was back again, as was her fear, leading her way and the cold air clung to her, every few seconds raising her hair from her head. It's okay. She tried to calm herself.

She dug into the bag her hand circling around the object she desired and she pulled it from the bag. Moonlight brightened the shiny metal of the knife in her hand making it appear even more menacing than it was. Remember go for the neck or the stomach and twist. The words said by her cousin were branded in her mind. Her heart clenched in anger, sadness, and fear as she remembered all that transpired that horrible day after her cousin uttered those words. She gripped the wooden handle of the knife tight and grinded her teeth together. Now was no time to reflect on the loss and misery, it was time to act.

She grabbed the bag from chair and slung it over her then bent down to pick up her boots. Using the table for balance she quickly inserted her feet into her boots pulling the zipper up keeping an eye on the door. The shadow still remained under there, dimming in and out of the light as it moved. The sound of the rain was slowed as it came to a drizzle and no other noise were heard. Then the door handle vibrated as the shadow from the other side tried to open it. They wouldn't be getting in without a key card and that stilled some of her racing panic. Boots on, she half ran to the nightstand and took hold of the sleek black phone and slipped it into her jeans pocket.

She turned and faced off with the door and the intruder behind it her mind in tumbles. Had they come back for revenge already? Would they get her this time? How many did he send? Had he already capture her family? With each thought dread swirled in the pit of her stomach making her feel queasy. She took an uneasy step toward the door the knife still clasped in her hand. She was ready to attack and use her body, bag, and anything else she could get her hands on to defend herself until she could escape.

The door handle movements stopped masking the room in a suspicious silence, she held her breath. There was rustling from the other side then the door handle was tried again. This time however the door creaked open. She gasped and took a step back moving into the shadows. The door didn't get very far as it rammed against the top bolt of the door, she was now given a glance at a bright blue eyes.

For a moment the memory of the guard and his icy eyes invaded her brain, she waited for her fear to paralyze her and her heart beat fast. But as much as a threat to her and her family that he was, she wasn't fully scared. She was anticipating and desiring a glance at his rugged features and muscular body. The pink scar that ran down his face, the heat of his body, and the sound of his laugh was added to the list of desires. He said he needed her help with something and now he had finally found her. She thought he would never find her, that he had been foolish to help her when she couldn't and wouldn't help him, but she guessed she had been wrong.

Now he was back. His face, voice, and body had found its way in her dreams, when they weren't nightmares, heating her fantasies up to unimaginable degrees. This time though their lips would be locked together while she was conscious so she could full participate in the kiss. Thinking about that brought goose bumps to her arms and her knees weak. Still she did not move from her spot in the corner after all he did work for her enemy. Again she was thinking before she acted a curse that blocked her from doing anything risky. Someday she would act and not think about the consequences and finally be free from herself. Then she heard a voice as it screamed dragging her back to reality and leaving her thoughts of him in the back of her mind.

"Arielle open the door hurry!"

Arielle unglued herself from the corner, breath rushing out -from relief? disappointment? Both?- and she raced to the door. She closed it, took the bolt away, and then opened it again. Jazzmine sailed into the room the black raincoat fluttered around her dripping with water. Arielle put away the knife she held and closed the door behind her making sure the bolt was secured back.

"We have to go now!" Jazzmine stated as she ran over to the other side of the bed grabbing her own bag and took her phone from her pocket dialing franticly.

Here we go again. Arielle thought.
