Comas were funny - well not really.

The victim of the accident is stuck in a weird state where their brain is asleep but they're still oddly conscious of what's going on around them. It's generally a peaceful time for them.

But outside the hospital room they're getting treatment in, absolute hell has taken over.

Natalie freaked when she got the news. Willa had found her parents' phone numbers and immediately called them about what happened, and Natalie couldn't have been more grateful.

Willa - and Hazel and Mel - were really fucking deep in an ocean of guilt. They had seen Anne walking out of the coffee shop and crossing the street. They had seen the car hurtling towards Anne. They had seen the driver's eyes widening as he tried to stop his car. They had leaped out of their seats to save or warn Anne, but by the time they raced out the shop, Anne had been hit.

And outside the hospital room she had quickly been rushed to, people were freaking out, including Anne's parent who Willa had also contacted.

The worst part was that Anne wasn't even injured.

The doctors had said she wasn't bleeding - or internally bleeding - anywhere, and nothing had been broken. Her side was severely bruised but that was it.

Oh, and she was in a coma.

A coma in which it was very unclear whether she would wake up or not from.

The doctors had also said that if she wasn't so emotionally stressed and her diet wasn't made up of coffee, she would have survived easily.

But no, the two things she was addicted to, the two things that kept her going her whole life - or month for Natalie - were ultimately her downfall.

That's how addictions worked. You're so hooked on that one thing - or two - and they seem like a dream, they seem like heaven at the time; they're only good for a short while. But in the long-term, they make everything worse.

And because of this, Anne was now wavering on the line of life and death.

And Natalie was now in a worse state than Anne had been in before the accident.

Natalie had forced her parents to fly her back to the small town, and she now lived in the hospital waiting room. The doctors wouldn't let her inside Anne's room because Natalie was too angry, too stressed, too sad, and Anne didn't need that.

So when the doctors came out to the waiting room with grim faces to speak about Anne, Natalie almost shit herself.
