Anne was going insane.
Natalie's parents had suddenly come to town and whisked Natalie away to Europe. Natalie had no prior notice of this whatsoever, it just happened.
And Natalie had tried convincing her parents to let Anne come along or leave Natalie in the small town while they went by themselves, but they strictly refused. They came and took her and banned her from using her phone, so Anne had no way to communicate with Natalie.
For a whole week.
Anne was pissed.
She was drinking coffee all the time now, which only made matters worse.
It was so strange. Anne was tired, pissy, annoyed, sad, and lazy. She only got like that when she wasn't having a shit ton of coffee all the time.
Coffee after all was her ultimate addiction, and as long as she had it she could live - somewhat - happily.
But now, even though she was drinking more coffee than she ever had in her life, she was still in the shittiest mood she'd ever been in.
It was only the second day of Natalie's family's trip, and Anne had gotten to this state so quickly.
Everywhere she looked she was reminded of Natalie, everyone she saw she hopelessly thought was Natalie.
Everything was just Natalie, but nothing was actually Natalie.
When she went to get - surprise bitch - coffee with Willa, Hazel, and Mel for a bit, the four of them quickly established something.
"Okay, you need to stop," Mel said. "It's barely been two days and you're a mess. You're not even responding to the memes or cute dog pictures I send."
Mel wasn't wrong. Not only were Anne's emotions and thoughts fucked up, but her look was too. Messy hair, crumpled clothes, pale skin, dark under eye circles, even blood shot eyes. And Anne was ignoring everyone on social media.
"Yeah, you look just how I did when I stopped stopped snorting some addictive shit those few days last year," Hazel added.
"What?!"Anne shrieked.
"Ohhh, you're having withdrawal symptoms," Willa laughed. "Your current existence is all just extreme symptoms you get when you're not taking your addiction. Like when I'm not worshiping Satan."
Mel spoke up, eyebrows furrowed, "That's not how being addicted to a human works dumbass, Anne was never taking Natalie."
Hazel snorted, "Yeah it was the other way around."
Willa laughed again at Hazel's input while Mel rolled her eyes at the immature duo. Anne, on the other hand, was even more confused. "Addiction? Withdrawal symptoms? What the fuck are you guys on?"
Willa leaned forward on the table they were sitting around and slowly spoke, "You have an addiction. To a person named Natalie. You are experiencing withdrawal symptoms. Which you get when you're away from your addiction."
Anne blinked, but she quickly processed it. It was true; she was now addicted to coffee and a barista she met a month ago.
But then Anne realized how fucking ridiculous this was and how high her friends probably were. She sighed and stood up. "I have to go study now."
"Actually study or get drunk on coffee?" Mel asked.
"Actually study. See you around! Stop doing your drugs."
"Byeeee!" the three chorused.
Anne walked out of the shop and immediately scowled. That was unhelpful as fuck.
She already knew in the back of her mind that she was helplessly addicted to Natalie - maybe even more than she was to coffee. But how the hell was she supposed to deal with her 'withdrawal symptoms' for five more days?
She was too immersed in all her negative angry thoughts and she didn't notice anything happening around her.
She didn't even know what had happened.
Just that something extremely strong and forceful slammed into her side, knocking the breath out of her as she fell on the ground.
Then everything went black.
