Chapter 15: If All Else Fails, Make Plans A-Z.

Spencer P.O.V.

The number on my phone glowed brightly in that dark hospital room. Mom had to be kept for another night or so, for precautions. I could hear the patients in other rooms yelling as they got treated, nurses footsteps clicking outside the door, carts being rolled from room to room. Yet, my mother still slept as sound as a baby.

Father and Malachi had left to go to the farm, but I had other plans. I couldn't just let this keep happening to our family; spitting up again. It's pure agony to know that the other half of your family is living far away with some other wannabe "mom." Of Which, Georgina is trying her hardest to be. According to Malachi, over text, she was waiting at the house for them last night and cooked them a fine meal. Malachi and I both bet that it was just prepackaged microwaved food. However, Dad kissed her cheek and thanked her. What a scoundrel; I still love him though. But this is not what a family looks like.

Without a second thought I pressed the green call button on my screen and heard the phone beep, 10 times for every digit. The ringing sound filled my ears as I gulped nervously. With a click, a milky voice came off the other end of the line.

"Hello? Who is this?" Her pristine sound brought even more chills crawling up my spine. I haven't seen this woman since I was a child. Even then, I never really knew what she looked like or how she was, though mother has told many stories.

"Aunt Felicity, it's Spencer. We have a problem."

I sat in my room after I finished texting Spencer about Georgina's awful mothering skills. If you're going to make it look like a home-cooked meal, at least hide the meal package a whole lot better. Throwing it at the top of the trashcan doesn't really do the trick.

"Knock knockkk." Her sickly voice rang out from the other side of the door.

She opened it wide, smiling at me with so much fake adoration it made my stomach hurl. The light from the window illuminated her   all-black outfit in a glowing white outline, making her look like some angel of death. Satan's helper? Definitely. With a small click the door shut and locked behind her.

"So Malachi, Ive been thinking... and I want to become a member of your family!" She smiled, sitting at the edge of my bed.

I rolled my eyes and turned away, "I didn't realize there was an open invitation. By the way, you could start by learning how to cook."
