2}A Little Surprise

Arthur Kirkland sat in his living room with a fresh cup of tea and a spell book. He took a sip of tea with each spell he read. Nothing was better than a hot cup of tea and a book.

RING-RING!!

Glancing up, Arthur grabbed his phone off the table.

"Yes?" Arthur asked as he answered his phone.

"Is this Arthur Kirkland?" A woman's voice asked.

"Yes. What is it?"

"This is Royal Cambridge Hospital and we need to know if you know a woman named Anne Louise?"

Anne Louise.

That was a name Arthur hadn't heard in almost nine months. The last time he heard it, he was at the pub and he and a woman hit it off. He remembered going home with Anne Louise and going upstairs to his bedroom with her. When he woke up the next morning, Anne Louise was gone and Arthur hadn't heard anything of her since.

Until now.

"Y-yes, I knew an Anne Louise." Arthur admitted.

"Ms. Louise passed away two days ago," the woman said. "Before she died, she claimed that you were the father of her baby."

"Baby?" Arthur asked. Wait, did Anne and I even use a condom that night?

"Yes, she gave birth before she passed away."

Arthur stayed silent for a moment.

"So...what do you want me to do?" He finally asked.

"We just want you to come and see the child." the woman said.

"Alright," Arthur said. "I'll be there. I would also like to do a DNA test."

Arthur arrived at the hospital and found the maternity and newborns ward. He presented himself as Arthur Kirkland at the front desk and the secretary led him to a doctor's office.

"Hello. I'm Dr. Fudge. You must be Mr. Kirkland." A man said as he stood up and approached Arthur.

Arthur nodded and shook the doctor's hand. "Yes. I'm Arthur Kirkland. I got a phone call saying that an Anne Louise said I was her baby's father."

Dr. Fudge typed Anne Louise's name into his computer. "Ah, yes. Ms. Louise sadly passed away after she gave birth."

Arthur didn't answer. He barely knew the woman (He knew her name) he had a one night stand with and he felt sad that she died.

"She gave birth to a healthy baby girl before passing."

Arthur still didn't answer.

"Would you like to see the child?"

"Yes." Arthur finally said.

Dr. Fudge stood up and Arthur followed him. The doctor lead him down the hall to the hospital nursery. Inside, several couples gathered around the huge glass window and talked about their babies. Dr. Fudge and Arthur stood in a less crowded spot by the glass.
