So, day two. Another night of barely any sleep because it's all just too exciting to spend the time in bed!
At around 6am I clicked onto Amazon with my heart in my mouth. Which way had it moved? Oh lordy lord, YES! Up to 290! After a brief happy dance around the landing, it was business as usual to get the kids fed and off to school so that I could conduct the important business of watching the rankings some more. ;)
It turned out to be a nail biting day. By 10am it moved out from 290 to 319, and then at 11.30 back to 226. Arrgh! And then Oooh! I almost choked on my sandwich when it broke the 200 barrier at lunchtime., hitting number 183. Mid afternoon it moved again, this time to 149. Screenshot! Screenshot!
And so went it went on, all the way to 5pm when it entered the Kindle top 100 sellers at number 95! Cue hugging of the kids, who had no real clue what was happening but were more than happy to just go with it for five minutes before returning to minecraft. Inside the top 100. :)
All in all, it peaked at number 87. Far higher than I'd dared hope, and the reviewers all seemed to really like it.
HarperCollins PR team were great, arranging (nerve wracking) telephone interviews with Handbag.Com, and Undertaking Love was chosen as book of the week in The Sun! I bought at least five copies, it was completely surreal to see the cover of my book in a national newspaper.
As launches go, it was a thrilling ride, and to top it all off I released the second book in my self published Knight series within a week too. This worked really well I think, both books helped publicise each other.
It was around that time I got a call asking me to visit HarperCollins in London...
