I walked over to my bed, Robert was still there. Why would he get me this? I got under the blankets, still staring at the small package. The tiny words printed on the label made me laugh.
Robert looked at the box. "Grow Your Own Underpants? How lame."
What in the world was Jake thinking?! I lost my train of thought for a minute. Natalie walked in and immediately started talking. "You can leave now, if you want. You can stay longer if you feel like you need to. It's up to you." I shook my head and stood up.
"No, I'd like to go home. I haven't got much sleep today."
Natalie stretched her arm out to shake my hand. "It was very nice meeting you!" I ignored her hand and walked straight up to her. I embraced her in my cold arms. She hugged me back.
"Thanks for everything." I mumble. I walked to the side table, where my cell phone was. My bag was on the awfully designed, green couch. I picked it up and walked out. Robert and I walked down the hall. "Since you don't really have a house anymore, you can stay at my place."
I smile. "Thanks, even though I practically live at your place anyway. You're the bestest friend anybody could ask for!" He smiled and opened the door for me.
"Bestest isn't a word, Alice." He can be such a smart-ass sometimes. We walked to the front desk to sign out.
Then, we walked outside to my beautiful truck. I am so glad that I let him borrow it last week! It would've exploded in the garage. We rode down the interstate for about twenty minutes. Then we come to my favorite part, the back roads. I loved it out here! Not just because this is where my best friend lived. Simply because there aren't buildings lined up right next to the other or traffic everywhere. It's where I feel like myself. It's home to me.
We pulled into the driveway. He lives with his older brother, Nick. He's twenty eight and like a brother to me. Robert and Nick's parents died about six years ago. It was really hard for them. I didn't see Robert for about two months. He just.. disappeared. He finally came back and told me how sorry he was for leaving, but I understood his reasoning. All that I could do was cry and hug him. Do you know the perfect families in movies? They weren't completely perfect, but pretty close. My thoughts were interrupted by Robert. "We are going shopping tomorrow. You need new clothes and a toothbrush! I threw out the one you had here because it fell behind the toilet." I nod my head. You can't really argue with Robert. He almost always wins.
I heard Nick's voice. "Alice! I heard Robert leave the other day, but he was gone before I could ask where he was going. He wouldn't answer his phone either. I thought he went to Rebecca's."
I frowned and told him what was going on. "My house got burned down. I was trapped in the bathroom. Robert stayed with me in the hospital." His eyes got bigger and he wrapped his long arms around me. He had always been the sensitive one.
"You...are...squishing...me!" I spit out between breaths. He let go and whispered, "Sorry, about everything! Here take this, for tomorrow. Robert told me you two were going shopping." He tried to hand me a fifty and two twenty dollar bills.
"I can't take this." I said, shoving it towards him.
He smiled, "Yes, you can. Just make sure you bring me some Cinnamon Toast Crunch!" Robert started laughing. You should know know that Cinnamon Toast Crunch is Nick's favorite cereal. Last week Robert made the last bowl for himself and Nick flipped out. He snatched the bowl from Robert and cereal flew everywhere! It was hilarious, Nick can act like such a child sometimes.
It was around 4:30 now. "Hey guys, I'm going to bed. I am super tired!" They nod and I walk to Robert's room. Robert yelled from the kitchen, "There are some of your clothes in the drawer under the bed." I'm fine with what I'm wearing; a gray Rolling Stones shirt and black yoga pants. Both are really comfortable and I honestly didn't feel like changing. He had an extra bed in there, mostly for me. I stay over here a lot. I laid down, falling asleep almost instantly.
I woke up and looked at the clock; 8:38 AM. Sixteen hours of sleep! Holy shit. I didn't think that I could sleep that long! I walked into the living room. Nick was sitting on the couch. I went over and plopped down next to him. The remote flew off the couch. We both busted out laughing, "Can I use your charger?" I ask.
"You don't have to ask, Alice. It's in my room." I smiled and got up, walking to Nick's room. I unplugged the charger and walked back to Robert's room. I plugged my phone in and went back into the living room. I realized that I just went in a big circle.
"Hi again." I mumbled.
Nick laughed. "Hey Alice." I looked around, searching for Robert as he wasn't in his bed. "He went to Rebecca's earlier." He said. How does he do that? It's like he can read minds or something! Rebecca and Robert have been together for about fifteen months now. Not only do they love each other, but they look perfect together! He has messy, blonde hair and green eyes. Rebecca has long, curly red hair. Her eyes are a chocolate brown color. I didn't realize that I was thinking so hard until I heard Nick's voice. "You alright over there?"
I smiled. "Yep, I'm just thinking."
"Welcome back! I'm Rob Dyrdek and this is Ridiculousness." Nick's eyes flickered back to the tv.
It showed Rob on a huge cutout computer. I honestly had no idea what it was made of. "I don't get you." I started. "Why do you like these shows? I mean Rob, he's amazing. The show itself is just stupid." Nick looked at me with his 'mad' face. I laughed. He rolled his eyes and turned back to the television.
"This show is not stupid, Alice. Your shows are stupid! Really, what the hell is up with that time log.. time lord.. whatever he is? And the Winchesters? They don't even know how to act! Those shows are the stupid ones. Seriously, why-" I interrupted him.
"Okay, chill Nick! I was just playing. Can't you take a joke?" I angrily stood up and walked to Robert's room, stomping all the way there. I slammed the door shut. I get pretty dramatic sometimes. I hear the tv power off then footsteps that get closer with every step. The knock on the door startled me, although I'm not sure why. I knew that he was coming. "Go away!" I spit out. Nick walked in with a big grin on his face. What was up with him?
"Hey, do you want to go do something?" Oh, great. What is running through his head now?
"I don't know. What were you thinking about doing?"
He grin grew bigger. "A surprise." Knowing Nick, we are probably going to go see a G rated movie in theatres.
"I'm going to go take a shower." I started walking to the bathroom.
"I wouldn't suggest that."
I look at him, confused. "Why not?" Nick ignored me and walked to the kitchen. He grabbed the keys off the counter.
"I told you that it was a surprise." We walked out of the door I saw a four-wheeler already loaded up in the back of his truck. "For real?" I screech. He smirked and started the truck. I climbed into the passenger seat and we were off.
A/N: Nick's full name is Liam Nicolas Hayes. I don't know if I'm ever going to use it in the story, so I'd just like you to know.
