We are all monsters
Some of us are just better at hiding it
Skin is deceitful
A mask
Over the dark shadows that lie underneath
I watch those around me
Brothers
Those who I have known all my life
And those who I have come to meet in hell
We are cycled
On days and off days
Off days
Are the ones where we are left to reconcile ourselves
Seek redemption
Beg for forgiveness
On days
Are when we lose our identities
Transform into animals
Only bodies
With a single purpose
I fight it
But it has always been
And always will be
A losing battle
They starve us
To keep us on the edge
Serving meals every few days
To make us aggressive
Hungry dogs in a tiny cage
The promise of steak right outside the bars
Just beyond our reach
Merely a whiff
And our mouths water
Another fight has broken out
Diago, skinny and frail looking
Was caught with food
It's an unspoken agreement
A pack
Between all of us
If we starve
We starve together
Though sometimes
Someone gets a small prize from one of the guards
Not for anything special
Only to get a rise
See some action
The act can go unnoticed if you're careful
Pocket whatever they give you
Take it to a dark corner
But when you're careless
Things can get
Bloody
