Vanniren waited patiently, nervously clicking his green claws on the marble floor. His master stood next to him, calm and collected.
"Be still, my Second Wing" The old dragon looked down at Vanniren with kindness in his eyes.
Vanniren turned his head back to the door he was previously studying, following the smooth curving lines engraved into the wood with his eyes. It depicted a very big oak tree, with Dragons of all shapes flying and walking around it, some were playing near the roots, others were flying above the tree in beautiful arks and dives. The door told a story, one that was past from mother to dragonet throughout the ages.
The beautifully engraved door they were standing in front of slowly opened with a smooth sweeping sound and a red dragon wearing silver platelets on his head looked around the door.
"The Queen will see you now" The guard bobbed his head and opened the door further to let the old and young dragon through. The throne room was vast and wide. Veins of gold ran through the floor, walls and roof. The right wall of the room was entirely missing, opening it up to the sky and the whole desert. The throne itself was a large oval shaped rock made of white marble, and resting around it were smaller solid gold oval rocks. The upright back of the throne was carved into the shape of a desert rose with the details lined with more gold. Each and every part of the throne was polished so finely you could see your reflection in perfect detail. On the throne rested a large gold and blood red dragon, with eyes of molten gold. Her head was posed like a snake ready to strike, she looked imposing and regal.
His master spread his wings and mantled in front of the queen and Vanniren did the same, trying to match the position his master was in but felt very uncomfortable, feeling like his wings were sticking out at odd angles. Vanniren had only been in the company of the queen once before, when his master took him on as a apprentice. He was 4 at the time.
"Rise Mage Rarroc, rise apprentice. Tell me why you have come to see me" The Queen spoke in a deep rich voice. Vanniren and his Master came out of their uncomfortable mantling.
"Your Majesty, it has been 4 years since I took Vanniren as my apprentice and I believe he is ready for his first summons, I am here to ask for your blessing as my apprentice moves on in his training." The Queen looked me up and down, her golden gaze searing through my scales. She then turned back to my Master,
"You have my blessing Rarroc" The Queen nodded and a guard opened the large door, excusing her audience. Rarroc and Vanniren bowed then left the throne room, their claws clicking in the silence. Vannirens whole body thrummed with excitement, he was finally going to do his first summons!
