The first half of the day went really well. I had Gerard in art class, which has to be my favorite class now. It's weird, he seems so familiar to me, almost like we've met before but that's impossible. I stared at my easel and noticed that my drawing looked like crap, guess I forgot I suck at art. We were suppose to paint how we see ourselves and I was trying to do that.
"You're trying to hard, just let it flow out." Gerard took my hand in his and moved it around the paper. His touch was cold and yet there was a warmth spreading through my body. "Loosen up a bit and it will come easier." Gerard went back to his easel and I looked at the lines he drew with my hand. I started to continue my drawing, relaxing and letting things flow smoothly.
The bell rang signaling it was time for lunch, before I knew it Gerard was already gone. His easel was covered with a sheet but curiosity took over and I lifted it up. The drawing was of a grotesque monster with fangs and surrounded by bats. How was this a self portrait? I would ask him about it later.
My mom packed me a lunch so I went into the cafe and noticed the divide. The entire room went silent and stared at me. On the left side were the humans who looked at me with disgust and on the right were the vampires who looked at me with a ravenous stare. All I could do was stare until I felt a cold hand on my shoulder. I turned around to see Gerard and three other boys behind him.
"Follow me Nix, you can eat with us." I nodded and allowed his hand to take mine, we walked out of the cafe and to a door marked 'JANITOR'.
"What are we doing? We can't go in here." The three boys started giggling and Gerard leaned in close to me. I felt his breath against my neck.
Then a whisper, "not everything's what it seems." He smiled and opened the door, and I was in complete shock. "Welcome to the Black Parade, Phoenix." Instead of a small closet filled with cleaning chemicals and other supplies there was an unbelievable site. Gerard could see the sense of wonder on my face and he smirked.
The place was outside, beautiful colors danced across the land. It seemed like it would go on forever, a deep forest created a border around the area. There was a waterfall, flowing beautifully down a mountain cliff. Everything was bright, colorful and just a completely beautiful scene. It was like Willy Wonka's chocolate room, minus the chocolate of course.
"The name doesn't really fit, there's no ounce of black around. This place is amazing, thank you Gerard for bringing me here."
"A name does not define the object, in this case it's a dark name for a light place. Almost like good and evil, the dark is overpowered with the beauty." I felt him wrap his arms around me pulling me into a hug. "Just like how your beauty overpowers my darkness." I moved out of his grasp and turned to look at him.
"Gerard I saw your self portrait, do you see yourself as a monster?"
"I am a monster, vampires are monsters. I'm a vampire."
"Like you said, a name does not define the object. You haven't shown me you're a monster." We locked eyes, something so familiar with them. Beautiful hazel, more defined with his pale skin and red hair.
"Will you two sit down and eat already!" Gerard glared at the boys who were laughing at us. He walked me to where the others were and we sat down.
"I suppose introductions are in order. This is Ray." Ray had brown hair, it was fluffy, like an afro. He held his hand out and I shook it. His eyes were soft and I knew he was kind hearted.
"This here is...." Gerard's words were cut off when the one he was introducing pounced on me. We fell backwards and he pinned me down.
"I'm Frank!" His voice had so much energy in it. Frank's hair was short and black, he had gauges in his ears, a nose ring and a lip ring. Ray pulled him off me and I sat back up. "Sorry, I just love fresh meat."
"Nix, this is my younger brother Mikey." There was a shyness to him, he was wearing glasses and pushed them up his nose. This time I put my hand out to shake first, Mikey smiled and shook it. I could see some of the same features that Gerard has in Mikey too.
"So why aren't you scared of us new girl?"
"Well Frankie, who says I'm not? At any moment any of you could just kill me." I took a bite out of my sandwich and things went quiet. "So what powers do you have?"
"How do you know vampires have powers?" Mikey looked concerned that I knew such valuable information.
"I've done my research, I studied vampires when I was younger."
"Freak!" Frank pointed at me, wasn't the first time I was called this but didn't expect a vampire to ever call me that. He could see the hurt in my eyes. "Hey we're freaks too. I'm excited you're different, not like other humans."
"To answer your question Phoenix, before Frank was so rude, my power is mind control."
"I have telekinesis, let me show you." Mikey stared off into an area, suddenly a flower lifted from the ground and moved towards us. The flower got closer to me, finally it settled behind my ear.
"Thank you Mikey."
"I have element control, I can create and I can control any element. Fire, water, electricity, air, basically anything elemental. Wanna see?" I nodded my head excitedly, Gerard smiled and lifted his hand. He held it out in front of him, palm side up. Small flames began to dance in his hand, he brought his other hand and twirled a finger in the flame. The flames started to twist and became a mini fire tornado in his palm. Next he took his other hand, creating cold air the tornado became iced over.
He handed it to me and it felt cold to touch, "it's actual ice. I can feel the cold." The ice tornado shattered in my hand, "alright Frank, what's your power?" A devilish smirk came upon his face.
"Should I show her?"
"No." Gerard grabbed Frank's shoulder and pulled him back. "Phoenix, Frank's an entrancer or spellbinder, he can make humans lust over him and with a single touch send them into pure bliss of ecstasy."
"It's so intense, I love watching their faces as they experience their greatest pleasure of all time. You want to try?"
"No thank you, I'll experience all of that the old fashion way, with someone I love. Okay so, do your powers work on vampires or just humans?"
"Just humans, there's only a few rare vampires that can use their power against other vamps."
Frank blurted out, "yeah like Damian."
"Who's Damian?"
Ray explained, "Damian is the head vampire, he's the leader and his power is shapeshifting." We went back to our lunches when I heard a small whisper.
"Phoenix....." I looked at the boys but they were all eating. "Come to me....." Who was talking to me? "Through the forest....." Could they not hear this?
"Guys? Do you hear whispering? There's someone calling my name, he's telling me to go through the forest."
Gerard became frantic, "Nix, don't ever go through the forest. I don't want you to come here without one of us with you."
"Dude relax, she can't get in here without one of us anyway. Only a vampire can make it appear and she's human."
"We need to go, lunch is almost over anyway." Gerard gathered my stuff and we all walked out and back into the halls. He closed the door, Frank turned to me.
"Open the door Phoenix." I did as he said and instead of the enchanted garden there was a janitor's closet. "See we can make it appear anywhere, otherwise it's just the normal spots."
The bell rang ending lunch, we said our goodbyes. Mikey, Frank and Ray all left for their classes. Gerard stayed behind for a moment, "please be careful Phoenix. The only vampires you can trust is us, okay?" I nodded which made him smile.
It's only been the first half of the day and already things are interesting. Almost got in a fight with a vampire, met Gerard and the boys, there's something familiar about Gerard, visited a hidden land and talked to by a mysterious voice. I wonder if any other humans go through this kind of stuff. Also I wonder what mom and dad will say when I tell them about my day.
