Chapter 3: Dagur?

Shadowtail's Pov:

Just as I close the door I feel the eyes stop staring at me. My ears twitch when I hear Softsong open her wings an glide over to me. She lands on my head like usual but says softly in my ears. "Tell me an Midnight what it was when the others are asleep." I start to nod but remember who's talking an give a slight hum of conformation. I take her gently off my head an hold her in one hand petting her with the other. She lets out a soft sound of protest before crawling up my arm to my shoulder an sits there. I smile at her antics an walk over to Hiccup telling him the progress report of my group today. "Ok we'll switch groups tomorrow then." He says calmly I nod before looking at Kai. "Where's he going to sleep?" "I don't know Dad?" "Hm." "Where's Kai going to sleep?" "He can take my room I'll sleep out here with Midnight." "Are you sure Shadowtail? I mean it is your room?" "Yeah it's fine." I say kindly not really caring where I sleep. I look at Kai an motion for him to follow me. Once in my basement room I say to Kai calmly. "Well for now Kai you'll be sleeping in my room an i'll sleep on the loft with Midnight an Softsong. My decision is final so no buts I insist." "...Thank you Shadowtail." "You're welcome, just call me Tail. Shadowtail's a mouthful." "Alright I'll try." I nod before leaving the room but say quickly. "Sorry if the rooms a bit 'feminine'." "It's fine." He says calmly as I leave. I hear him take off his armour an quickly go up the stairs. I hear Midnight chuckle an glare at her lightly. She just huffs a smirk on her face. "Oh shush Midnight." I say in mock anger. She buts me with her head playfully making me say calmly. "Wanna go outside an blow off some energy before bed. She bleats happily an bounds to the door. I follow my excited dragon an open the door before closing it softly behind me. "Ok what do you want to do fly for a bit or run across the island?" "Fly, yeah!" Midnight replies quickly. I sigh before putting her saddle back on since I'd grabbed it as I walked out the door. Once it's fully latched I hop on her back with practiced ease. She runs for a few seconds before opening her wings an bounding into the sky. I feel the eyes bore into my back as we take off an look back to see a faint gleam of something's eyes before we are to high up for me to see what they belong to. I hum in discomfort an the tip of my tail flicks as I ponder what it could be. "What is it Tail? You seem distress, yeah." I hum again before replying. "Yeah, earlier an just now as we left I felt something watching me an I just saw a pair of eyes as we started flying." "That's interesting ,yeah. Want to check out the area around the island?" "Yeah let's do that. it'll put my mind to rest if it's only one of the villagers an not an enemy or random stranger." "Hm~ well you seem to be warming up to a certain stranger rather fast ,yeah." She says more like a statement than a question making me blush stuttering a bit. "I-I don't k-know what you're talking about Midnight." I say stuttering slightly. She flicks me with her ear lightly. I flinch not expecting to be repraimed by my dragon on love. We fly around the boundary of the island checking the beaches for strange boats. Finding none we do a once over in the surrounding rocks in the ocean but find nothing there either. I give a hum not convinced but decide to go home an catch some rest while it's still night time. Midnight an I arrive home at moon high an sneak inside not wanting to get in trouble or wake anyone mainly the latter. Midnight leaps onto one of the loft beams after I take her saddle leaving me to figure out a way to get up there as well. I decide to open my own jet black feathery wings an make a leap for it only having to beat my wings once for an extra boost. Once on the beam I curl up next to Midnight's scaly body an sleep with her wing an tail wrapped around me creating a tent like area. Later I feel Softsong crawl under Midnight's wing an curl up in my arms. I smile before drifting the rest of the way to sleep.

(Time skip)

Slowly I wake up to something wet touching my face. I open my eyes to see Midnight lick my cheek. I smile groggily before felling nothing in my arms. I shock myself awake when I realize Softsong is no longer in my arms. I look down precariously before remembering that I'm on one of the loft beams. Searching the ground below me I spot Softsong already awake on Kai's helmet perched between the curved horns on it. 'Traitor' I think calmly still watching Softsong. Suddenly Midnight nudges me an I sigh before sliding down on one of the columns. Midnight jumps down an goes to eat her breakfast next to Toothless. Both are protective of their food, but eat right next to each other. 'I guess it's because their both the last of their kind so far as we know. Plus, their not so protective of their food with each other.' I think thoughtfully. I look at my own breakfast an see its fish before scarfing it down hungry since I didn't eat dinner last night. "Somebody's hungry." Teases Hiccup playfully, something most people don't think he does but does it to me all the time. I just roll my eyes at him. Toothless bleats calmly when he finishes his fish. Midnight gulps down the second to last in her basket before nudging the last to Toothless he stares at it before taking the offered fish. I shake my head at them before saying in mock shock. "But Midnight your so protective of your food." She snorts in response grumbling about smart aleck teens. I chortle for a second before getting a warning glance from Hiccup. I send a glance his way letting him know that I got it under control an know how far I can go without giving anything away. He gives an almost unnoticeable nod before turning to Toothless. "Hey Bud, you wanna go ahead an head out?" Toothless perks his ears an heads calmly for the door. I glance after them for a second before asking. "So do you guys want to leave now or in a few?" "Now, I guess." Midnight bounds for the door right as I suggest leaving. Softsong snorts at the larger dragons antics an stays perched on Kai's helmet until we leave the house. I pick up Midnight's saddle as I leave the house an close the door once everyone's out. I latch Midnight's saddle up an get on sitting on the front of it so Kai can sit behind me. He gives me a glance but I shrug. "Being in the back isn't really that good for a rider. You start to lose common things you need to remember when flying so I'm sitting in front today." He takes a little while to get on the saddle since he got on second but when he does we take off. "You might want to hold on to me cause when I fly I fly my way." I say warningly. After a little hesitation he complies. I give a soft hum an Midnight goes a bit higher. slowly we climb in altitude before Midnight suddenly closes her wings an spirals downward before gently opening them back up so we don't jar in the saddle but get into a steady flow of air currents that take us to the forest. We fly above the forest for a bit till we get to a beach. Midnight climbs for a bit before turning around back to the academy. As we get closer we climb a bit before dropping in to the academy just inches above the ground. when we land I get a face full of Terror. I take the blurry greenish Terror off my face an look to see its Sharpshot. "Sharpshot, I haven't seen you for awhile... Is that for me?" I ask before untieing the piece of parchment from his leg. I get off Midnight an read the letter. 'Tail your needed at the south beach! Come quickly it's really important. Bring Kai if he's with you.' "Well looks like we're heading to South beach. Like now." I say before getting back on Midnight. "Well Midnight we need to get to South beach like ASAP so let's go." Kai looks at me from the saddle as I hop back on with practiced ease. Noticing the look I say calmly. "Yes your coming with us seems like we need your help or something." His look changes to shock but he stays silent. "Anyway hold on because we need to get there fast." I feel his arms wrap around my torso an give Midnight a light pat on the shoulder. "Lets go Night, quickly to South beach." She bounds out of the academy an flys as fast as if the Screaming Death is after us to South beach. We get there an spot only one teen missing. Hiccup. Looking across the beach near the ocean I see him near another male around the same age as me an Hiccup. I gasp quietly an my mind goes into overdrive. 'Oh my gosh how did they get Hiccup... Where's Toothless?!' I look around the beach an see Toothless bound by bolas. I look at my adopted brother again an see his hands bound behind him by rope an his feet tied behind him so he can't escape the larger male in front of him. Formulating a plan to free my brother I tell Midnight softly in her perked ears before telling Kai as well. He nods slightly before I put my plan into action. I turn Midnight around an start to quietly slip away unnoticed from the beach. Suddenly an arrow hits a tree next to me before lodging itself into the bark. I hear voices coming into the woods an get Midnight to sprint away from them. Once out of reach of the arrows I pat her shoulder with my foot an she takes off flying a little higher than usual. Carefully we fly back to South beach. Just as we fly into view of the beach something wraps around Midnight's wings trapping me an Kai to her back. Falling Midnight roars in fear, afraid of hitting the ground harshly. Hitting the ground I gasp feeling the wind knocked out of me. Midnight yelps an breathes deeply trying to get her own breath back. Kai groans behind me his head on my shoulders. I try to wiggle out from beneath him so I can free us but am stopped by a sword being held against my neck. I look up my ears laid back against my head an growl wanting to be let go. "What's this, another Nightfury! Oh what fun... But wait who's this?" I just growl in responds not happy at all. Pressing the sword closer to my neck he says threateningly. "I'll ask again who are you?" I wager my chances before awnsering haughtily. "Shadowtail Valcorin, adopted daughter of the chief an adopted sister to Hiccup." "Finally getting somewhere. Well Shadowtail, I'm Dagur the Deranged, chief of the Berserker tribe." Says Dagur calmly taking the sword away from my neck. "Take them to my ship." Orders Dagur to some other Vikings. I try again in vain to free myself before Midnights picked up with me an Kai still trapped on her back. Midnight doesn't move unconscious from landing so hard on the ground. "Put them in the lower deck of the boat an tie them up separately." "Yes, Sir." One of them says obediently. They take us down to the lower deck of the boat an start to carry out their chief's orders. Once inside the boat they close the trap door behind them before cutting Midnight free. When they do I wiggle out from under Kai an hit one of the larger males in the jaw. He recoils holding his jaw an the other glares at me before going to hit me on the chest. I dodge the blow an kick out hitting his hand. He grabs my leg in his other hand an throws me harshly on the ground knocking the wind out of me yet again. The same male grabs some rope an quickly ties my hands behind my back before I roll over an kick him on the nose making it bleed. Nose bleeding he walks away from me an continues with his orders to tie all three of us up. The other male who I hit in the jaw grabs my right leg just as I kick out an grabs my other leg before tying them together. My tail thrashes behind me as they tie Midnight up ,already having tied up Kai. Once done they leave wiping the blood on their tunics making me happy that I did some damage. On the upper deck I hear Toothless give a muffled bleat an whimper at the bleakness of the situation we're in.
