My heart pounded in my chest as I stared into the golden eyes I thought I knew. I felt utterly betrayed that he didn't tell me his secret, that he didn't trust me like I trusted him.
"Sophia-"
"No, I will not listen to this." My feet swung around, ready to run back to the window that I had exited from, but something blocked my way. I couldn't see the window for someone towering over me was in the way. Mentally, I groaned.
"Mekhi, it is so good to see you again." Alpha Malum mused, his raven eyes pinning Mekhi to where he was standing.
"You do not fool me, Malum."
"It is Alpha Malum, mutt."
The air seemed to turn cold between the two as they stared at each other, no movement made between the two as they stared each other down in hopes to prove dominance.
"Beta Caesar, why does your son come to the gates where he was told never to come to."
"Because he has accepted the future Beta position that belongs to him, sir. He wishes to train."
"Ah, only now do you want to be the Beta. Is it because I have her?" I felt his cold fingers grasp my shoulders tightly, the fabric proving no protection from the ice that seemed to be laced in his veins. Even the slightest touch around my neck made the bruises that appeared from when he strangled me throb. Mekhi clenched his jaw, his gold eyes flashing through the glasses that were on his face.
"My reason does not matter, it is my duty."
"Well, if you are going to be staying here there is a few things you must be clear of. First of all," I felt his nails on my neck as he ripped the black fabric of the sweater to the side, revealing the mark Alpha Malum had put on me. Hot blood slowly ran down my skin, the smell invading my senses like a deathly toxin. "You are to know what is rightfully yours and what is rightfully mine."
His eyes widened and his fingers trembled slightly beside his thighs as he stared at the mark. Something filled his eyes as he stared at it, an emotion taking over him as he slowly raised his gaze to mine. Tears stung my eyes as I looked away, ashamed at what had happened.
Mekhi must think I am the Alpha's mate, he must not know that it was done without my permission. I would never allow the man who's cold hands were still placed on my shoulder willingly sink his canines into my flesh. But even though I wanted to reach out and touch his arm and tell him everything, I was worried that the Alpha looming behind me would lunge.
"Now that we have that clear, Beta Caesar, take him out of my sights," he growled. I watched as the Beta nodded and bowed slightly as the gate opened before his hand gently grabbed onto the shocked elbow of Mekhi who was staring at the ground in bafflement.
More hate filled my insides towards the Alpha as he reluctantly followed the Beta and walked away, his body getting smaller and smaller as his distance grew more. My heart ached at what was all unfolding causing my nails to dig deep into my palms.
"Now," a hand spun me around quickly, "what exactly were you doing outside?"
"You never said anything about not being allowed out of that prison."
"I thought you would be smart enough to know not to be so foolish." I glared at him as he towered over me, his jaw tensing. "Do not test me. You will not be seeing the future Beta while he stays here."
"Only if you do not visit me while I am trapped in this hell hole." I gasped for air suddenly, my eyes bulging out of my eye sockets. I looked down to see one of his hands clasped firmly on my neck. My toes barely brushed the ground as I dangled there, carbon dioxide building up inside my lungs. The bruises felt like they were on fire and I knew that the deep purple colour they had would most likely deepen into a darker shade.
