That was the last thing Josephine remembered. When she’s conscious again she found herself at the doorstep of her house. Her bicycle was toppled over just next to her, but Esme was on the top of the staircase which leads to her house door.
She gulped. How could she even stand having this thing in her house?
Placing her bicycle against the walls of her house, Josephine walked up the steps and crossed over Esme before entering her house. If Esme can just enter her house somehow, let her be. If not, well, that’s for the best.
But Josephine knew better.
It’ll be in her room again later, of course. That’s what Esme will always do, seems alright, and then it’s just there into her room again. Always.
“Josephine~!” A voice called out to her. This surely isn’t the voice that she wants to hear. ”Josephine, I’m lonely…”
Josephine tried to shut out the voice screaming in her head, but the voice only got louder and louder.
“ENOUGH!!!” She shouted.
“You’ll die, Josephine. Do you know that? Come and join me, won’t you?” The voice rang out as a reply. “Or… Do you want to give me away as well?”
“I’m not dying! I am not!!! YOU are the one who’re going to die, Esme. GO AWAY!” Josephine screamed at the voice.
That moment, Stephanie came out from her room, aware that something’s wrong with her daughter even with her senile conditions. “Josephine?” Her mum’s voice sounded so distant.
Why did all these happen one after another? This is too much for me! Josephine thought to herself, looking through her blur visions at her mother who stood there, so close to her with that stupid look on her face.
Yet, Esme’s voice was still there. “I’m like a chain letter, pass me on or die…” How horrible her laugh sounded.
“DIE? Die, you say?!” Josephine threw back her head and laughed. “You know what? That was the best joke ever! Lucifer could have used someone like you to entertain him, won’t he?” Her mum was holding her tightly against her chest now, muttering something she couldn’t hear. All she knew was that Stephanie was dragging her out of the house while she laughed like a maniac with tears streaming down her face.
Her head seems to be spinning, no, it’s not her. The world itself is turning round and round, round and round, around her. Josephine heard another laugh escaping her lips.
Oh, her mum is driving, isn’t that a sight to behold? Maybe mum and I are now mentally inverted? Hmmm~~ Perhaps, perhaps. She nodded in approval even at Esme’s voice still repeating the same thing over and over again in her mind.
“I’m like a chain letter, pass me on or die…”
After the last laugh, she found herself falling asleep.
