*sorry for taking so long, guise.. ><*
Looking into Josephine’s eyes for several moments before starting to tell her side of the story, Candice sighed.
“She used to be my best friend…” Candice started, “All I got to know was that she got it in her mailbox. You’d never guess she’s someone like that just by looking at her.. Roxy isn’t that type of person!”
“She gave it to you didn’t she?”
“That’s what she did. From what I gathered, when the doll is passed on to someone else, you will be free of those… weird stuff that happened to you. Don’t try to return it to me though, I can swear to you, it’s useless.” Candice continued. She took Esme from Josephine. “Deceived by her looks, weren’t you?”
Josephine looked at Esme, silent. Then, she nodded.
“Me too,” Candice smiled. “After going through those days with Esme, I tried to give it back to Roxy. You see, I put it into her school bag, as a gift. Just seconds after I put it there, it just disappeared. Guess what?
I found it back in my home again, out of all places,”
A million thoughts ran through Josephine’s mind. What could she do? Who could she pass it on to? A passing stranger? An innocent girl not knowing what might happen next? That won’t work… All she knew was that she needed to get this doll away from her, as soon as possible.
“Josephine?” Candice brought Josephine out from her daydreams. “Maybe you want to pass it to Mary… She loved it as well, didn’t she?”
Immediately Josephine sprang up from her seat. “What are you saying? I won’t give it to my best friends! I’m not someone like that!”
“You’ll change your mind eventually,” Candice said, her smile still in place while combing through Esme’s hair with her fingers. The wild look Josephine thought was gone from Candice’s eyes earlier was back there again. A short chuckle escaped her lips. “Who won’t? It’s that urgent to get rid of this pretty thing. You’ll pass it on to anyone, you know? Even if you don’t want to, you will…” Josephine took a few steps back.
“You will give it to Mary, yes you will!” Candice looked up at Josephine, a huge smile on her face. Her eyes were wide, matching her weird smile. “YOU MIGHT EVEN DIE!!!!!” she cried. Josephine grabbed Esme from Candice’s hands and ran out from the store. Even then, she could still hear Candice’s laugh. Suddenly the whole store doesn’t seem so friendly anymore. Getting back on her bike, she pedaled back home. Her legs seem to have lost control of their own movements, all she did was pedal, pedal, pedal… She couldn’t control her speed either.
Josephine blinked.
She pressed down on the brakes immediately. Blinking a few more times to be sure, nothing in front of her changed. From the lone road back home, she’d somehow arrived in a forest. Muddy grounds, tall trees towering above her with leaves covering just about the whole sky, making the place seem dark.
Josephine turned back to look, but found the muddy path leading far back as well. Had her mind wandered so far away that she didn’t notice the pathway? It couldn’t be, Josephine decided. She then looked at the doll placed in front of her. How fake that smile seems now, so evil. So GROSS. What are you up to now, Esme? Josephine asked in her mind.
Calm down, Josephine told herself. She then thought she saw a shadow flitting among the trees. Squinting her eyes, all she saw were dark shadows moving around that area. “Okay… This, is weird.” She said to herself silently.
She turned her bike around and started to pedal beck. If this is where I’d pedaled from, I should be able to get back to the main road in no time, she decided.
All she sees, however, were long grasses by the side of the path, and more shadows seemed to be closing in on her. The only sounds she could hear was her own bike, her breath, and the weird shadows around the trees.
As she cycled further, her legs grew tired. Yet taking a break in a place like this just isn’t rational enough. Not to count in the fact that she did not bring water with her. Licking her dry lips, she slowed down her pace.
How much time has passed? It seemed to be hours already somehow..
Now sweating and eyes slowly shutting, she stopped cycling altogether, and was just in time to see all the shadows crowding around her.
