We stop laughing and I remember why I decided to come here. It'll be weird if I just suddenly ask questions that I should probably already know.
"Did your parents find a way to finish the new 'medicine'?" Monica asks me. My heart skips a beat, 'medicine?' Is it the same 'medicine' that the scientist gave me?
"Which one? You know that my parents like to invent so many new things." I say, hoping that it would sound like something that I would normally say in this parallel universe. "Duh, of course they like to invent things. They're scientists like our parents, but the one I'm talking about is the 'medicine' that will give eternal life." Monica says excited at the end.
Eternal life?! What?! Are they trying to make people live forever like vampires, but vampires aren't real. "I'm not sure. They're really secretive about that certain experiment. Why not ask your parents?" I ask.
David stares at me like I'm an idiot. "Didn't your parents tell you?" He ask.
"Tell me what?" I ask. I look at him. "Our parents aren't working on the same experiment that your parents are working on. After all, your parents are the lead scientists." He informs me.
My eyes widen. Lead scientists, does that mean my parents control the experiments they do and what kind of experiments do they do?
"Guess not." He said. He swings back and forth. I look back at Monica. "What's the meaning of that statue in front of the school?" I whisper to her.
Monica looks at David and then to me. "It's a statue of your father and your uncle shaking hands, duh. Are you feeling ok? You should have definitely knew that." She whispers back.
My body goes cold in fear. Uncle?! The evil scientist that put that 'medicine' in me is my uncle? It can't be true!! I need to talk to my parents. "Meli!" Scarlet shouts. I look over at her. She's running over to me.
"It's going to rain soon, should we go back home?" She asks. Hmm? We were probably only here for thirty minutes but when I look up at the sky. I see clouds forming and the sun is more down then it was when we left. What? I look back at Scarlet. "Sure." I tell her.
She smiles. "Bye David, bye Monica." She says. They bye back and she walks over to the entrance of the park. "Are you guys also going to go home?" I ask them.
"Not yet. We'll wait for the rain to come down." Monica says. David nods in agreement. "Ok, bye then." I said. I get up and wave good bye. They wave back and I walk over to Scarlet.
She's leaning against a lamp post, waiting for me. She sees me and stands up straight. "Let's go!" She said all hyper. I smile and we walk to the house. Scarlet hums all the way home. I find myself humming along with her while walking.
We arrive to the house and Scarlet walks inside. "Thanks for taking me to the park, Meli! I'm tired, so I'm going to take a nap." She tells me. I nod and smile. She walks to her room. I close the door and walk to the kitchen.
My mom is sitting at the table with papers sprawled on the floor. She notices me and smiles. "Hi, honey. I heard that you took Scarlet to the park today, thank you. You should eat something and then do your homework." She tells me.
I smile at her and sit across the table from her. "I will, but can I ask you a question first?" I ask her. She looks at me and then at the papers. "Sure, I need a break from this." She says. She sits up and looks at me.
"Ok, you know that statue that's in front of my school. What is the name of that uncle that is shaking dad's hands?" I ask her. She looks at me concerned. "Are you feeling alright?" She asks.
I smile nervously. "Yes, of course. But I always forget his name. I'm not good with names and faces remember?" I say convincingly.
She stares at me for a moment. "Hmm, ok. I'll tell you but you should remember his name. It's not nice to forget someone's name. His name is Kerry, so to you he is uncle Kerry." She tells me.
"Oh, of course! How could I forget? Ok, thank you mom. I'll eat and then go to my room... actually can I eat in my room today? I won't make a mess. Promise." I say with a cheerful tone.
"Sure." She tells me and she goes back to staring at the papers. I walk to the closet and grab a bag of chips. She said to eat something, but she didn't specify. I smile to myself. I walk to my room with the chips in my hand.
Uncle Kerry. Bleh, it's leaving a bad taste in my mouth. It has be a lie. That scientist can't possible be my uncle. I walk inside my room and put the chips on top of my desk.
I thinks it time to leave this hallucination. A hallucination is like a dream, right? So, to wake up from a dream, I'll have to hurt myself. If I pinch myself, it won't be enough to wake up, so instead I look around my desk for scissors.
I find scissors in a pencil case. I take a deep breath and then stab my leg. I cover my mouth with my other hand to prevent a scream. It hurts!! I take out the scissors and its covered in blood.
I put the scissors on the desk and limp to the bathroom. It didn't work and it hurts a lot! I winced in pain silently as I move my leg. I lean on the bathroom door frame. I take a couple of deep breaths. I need a break. I think to myself.
I'm never going to stab myself again! I slowly limp to the sink counter and lift my stabbed leg carefully onto the counter. I look at the wound carefully and regret it immediately.
There's blood falling and trailing down my leg. The wound is also getting infected for it is turning purple around the edges. How did it getting infected so quickly? Was the scissors blade that dirty?
I grab the rubbed alcohol and a rag from the bottom cabinet. I pour a bit of rubbed alcohol onto the rag and let it absorb. I put the rubbed alcohol bottle to the side and gently put the rag over the wound. I wince in pain and grit my teeth from crying out loud.
I let the rag sit there for a moment before taking it out. The rag had also absorbed some of my blood and the sight of it was making me feel queasy. Almost done. I think to myself. I look for bandages and I could only find small little ones.
I sigh in despair. I'll just use a towel for now. I take out a new towel from the bathroom closet and wrap it around my leg. Once I'm satisfied with everything, I go back to my room and lie down on the bed.
My breathing stays constant and then it gets faster. The pain in my leg starts to hurt more. I'm not moving my leg, so why does it hurt?! I wince and try to slow down my breathing. There's a twist in my ankle.
What's happening? I grab my stomach in pain. I move my ankle and it only made the pain grow greater. I sigh and just stop moving completely. This is horror and it's all that scientists fault. He isn't my uncle, my parents don't work in a lab and I definitely DON'T have a sister.
This is all fake and when I get out of this hallucination, I'll find out the true truth and I don't care how long it takes. I'll get to the bottom and once I escape that lab then I'll find David once again. I close my eyes and fall to sleep, ignoring the pain in my leg, ankle, and stomach.
