Trees are fading away and houses start to come into view. I catch up to Monica and David. I don't know with certainty, but all of a sudden I feel nervous being around the both of them. I remember their argument from earlier and the way I acted the last time I saw them.
"Did you find your parents?" Monica asks all of a sudden. I look at her surprised, but she keeps walking and is looking straight. David seems to be glaring at her, but Monica doesn't notice. "Um, sort of, but not really." I respond.
I'm trying to come up with ways to apologize for my behavior when I last saw them. "You're not wearing your backpack, what happened to it?" David asked in a worried tone.
"I left it behind, nothing important was in there anyway." I lied. It had money, clothes, food and some other things. If the people who kidnapped me left my backpack behind then it should be in the hotel room, however if they did take it then I'll probably be in trouble if my parents. My parents will just have to let it go after what I've just been though.
"My parents are on a trip for work, so they won't be home for at least three more days." David says. We are standing in front of a house that looks vaguely familiar. David walks in first and before Monica enters next, she turns around and looks at me. "How good is your memory?" She asked suddenly.
"Uh. It's okay, I guess? I remember things but then sometimes it goes away in a couple of days." I tell her. She doesn't seem satisfied with my answer but she turns around and enters the house. I feel like she's trying to tell me something, but what could it possible be? I enter the house and take a look around.
It's medium sized living room with a corner couch, a television, a few framed pictures hanging on the walls and trophies lined up in a trophy case. Wow, that's a lot of trophies. I wanted to go closer and check what kind of trophies it was, but I didn't want to overstep my boundaries.
"Do you even have food in your refrigerator?" Monica asks David. I look at them. "Of course there's food." David says with a roll of his eyes. Monica frowns. "I mean ACTUAL food that ACTUAL people eat." Monica says emphasizing the actual.
"Yes, I am a normal person after all." David says. Monica has this evil glare directed at him. "Normal people don't eat kale. Normal people don't drink raw eggs. And finally normal people don't—" Monica gets interrupted.
"Some people do drink raw eggs, eat kale and whatever you were gonna say to be healthy. Just because you don't like eating or drinking healthy doesn't mean other people are the same." David says arguing.
Monica opens her mouth to protest more and I tune them both out. All they do is fight and argue. Sometimes it gets tiring hearing them, even in the parallel universe they argued a little. "Um, I'm sorry to interrupt, but if it's alright with you two. Can I use the restroom?" I ask nervously and a bit loudly so they can hear me over their arguing.
Monica turns to look at me. "Yeah, sure. The bathroom is just straight down the hall." She tells me. I nod and follow her instructions. When I get to the bathroom, I lock the door and sit down on the toilet seat. I sigh quietly. Think Melissa, what is top priority?
Thinking, thinking and thinking. A light bulb goes off in my head. "The medicine." I mindlessly say aloud. If the person was right, then I should find my parents and maybe they know a cure. But for now, I should take a break. If I have time, then I should go back to the hotel for my backpack. I stand up and walk over to the sink.
I turn on the faucet to cold water and splash some water onto my face. After a few seconds of cold water, I turn off the faucet and dry my face off. I leave the bathroom and head back to the living room, when I get there Monica and David are nowhere to be seen.
I sit on the couch and yawn. I'll take a small nap. I take off my shoes and gently laid them next to the couch. I get comfortable and instantly fall asleep.
