"Attention Ladies!" yelled Ms. Margo from the front of the room.

She might be a short lady, but she packs a good pair of lungs. "I have an announcement to make!"

Her tight blond curls bounced when ever she took a step and the glasses she wore looked like they were worth a million bucks. She always reminded me of villains from movies. The way she dressed, her personality, and everything else she does. Even when she takes off her gloves she manages to make it look evil.

"We are going to be having a very important visitor over, so I want the place looking new and sparkling."

"We clean, we don't make miracles!" I interrupted her before even realizing what I had just said.

"Ms. McKinley! Do you want me to assign you more chores?" Asked Ms. Margo

I looked her straight in the eye and tried to pull off my best serious face I had and replied with "No ma'm"

She finished the little stare off we had going and continued walking towards the end of the room and continued her little announcement.

"As I was saying, I need this place clean by 2 o'clock and there will be no lunch until you are all done and I have approved of it. Now get to work." And with that she left and exited the room with her expensive heels clitter-clatting on the floor after her.

"Do you want to wipe the windows first?" Asked Meredith

"Actually, I was thinking of going downstairs to clean the shelves. I have something to show you." I replied

"Fine, but I'll race you down the stairs!" she giggled and took off.

Believe it or not, this is one of the best orphanages I've been in. The ones in the past were all gross and old. This one is also gross and old, but a lot less.

There are no bullies, kids don't get beat, I can actually tolerate the counselors, the food is not so bad, but the best of all, is that I have a friend here.

"I won!" Meredith hollered as she pranced toward the dinning room.

"Because you had a head start!" I answered back.

"What ever gets you through the night!" she took a sudden turn with an embarrassed face as she added "Sorry I forgot, I didn't mean to-"

"It's okay Mer. I'm fine." I took her hand and directed her towards the back of the room. There was an old creaky brown closet door.

"I want to show you something, but I need your help." I said

"Sure, what for?"

"I need you to give me a boost."

I opened the door and pointed to the shoe boxes way up high. They were filled with dust and spiderwebs.

"It's up there."

She kneeled to the ground and coupled her hands. I put one foot on her hands and gripped on to the door frame.

"Hurry up, you're not as light as you look." Complained Mer

"I've almost got it!"

My finger tips wrapped around the box just on time right before we fell to the ground.

"Ow. Did you get it?" asked Mer

"Yeah, look."

I took the necklace by the chain and lifted it up for Mer to see. The necklace had two wings with black tips on the feathers. The silver part of the wings gleamed where the sun touched them.

I had been cleaning the shelves when I found it and decided to leave it inside the box because it's rare to have anything to call "mine" in an orphanage. If you own any stuff, it's always stolen.

"Wow! It's beautiful!" Mer added.

"Yeah, I know. I found it last week."

"To bad you can't wear it."

I hadn't realized I wouldn't be able to wear it or else Ms. Margo would take it away from me.

"I guess I could wear it at night and in the mornings I could just put it back here." I said

"I'm not going to be able to carry you everyday Paige!" Groaned Mer

"Fine, I'll just find somewhere else to put it."

She sighed with relief and leaned against the wall.

"And I know the perfect place for it!" I exclaimed.

I ran towards the stairs as Mer trailed behind me.

"Where are we going?!?" she yelled

"You'll see!" I shouted back

I turned around the hallway once I reached the top of the stairs. The dull green wallpaper was peeling off and the paintings just added a more boring affect to them.

Right across from our bedroom door was a painting too, and it was right above a vase. The red shiny vase was big enough to fit my necklace through, but small enough for no one to fit their hands inside. The perfect hiding place.

I dropped my necklace inside and with a clink it landed to the bottom.

"There, safe and sound!" I gleamed with a smile on my face.

Mer finally caught up to me and was gasping for air. "Geez Paige, you sure can run fast when you want to."

"I guess it runs in the family." Said a man.

I turned around to see who it was and there he was, standing tall and confident.

"Missed me?" He said
