Gregariza stared at the dead body of Jane being wheeled away on a tray to be examined by the forensics team.
Of course he had never exactly felt comfortable around Illgis, but he never suspected him of doing anything like this. And of Jag being part of some unseen conspiracy. Gregariza had wondered about his strangely vague history. They just hadn't thought to have examined it too closely.
And now, they were paying for it. Two of the Regime's agents had passed right under their fingertips. The thought made Gregariza's blood boil. How had he not foreseen this? And how was he to explain it to his boss, Lakur?
But then again, if he cleaned it all up himself, he might never have to explain. If he sorted out this mess alone, he may even be rewarded.
"Teresa," Gregariza snapped at his personal assistant. "Call Theta Team in. I need to give them a briefing."
"Sir," the short, petite woman nodded, and walked down the corridor to the communications room.
Five minutes later, and a full squad of fifteen heavily armed, and armoured assault soldiers entered the mission briefing room.
"Theta team," Gregariza said, fiddling with his spectacles as the fifteen hulking brutes looked at him from the chairs that were barely large enough to hold them. "We have a very unique situation here, and one that must be dealt with extreme care. Two of our employees have escaped, and we suspect that they are agents of the Regime. Now, in order to catch them, we must act quickly. My chief of security has found footage of them leaving only twenty minutes ago, and believes he knows which direction they will have been headed."
"Devlink, get a satellite connection up and running," one of the soldiers, clearly the leader, nodded to another.
Devlink, a slightly slimmer and more sinewy troop went into the corner of the room next to a table, and immediately began setting up his equipment. A projector tablet was unfolded and activated, a satcom was constructed in a matter of seconds, and various other devices were also prepared just as quickly.
Gregariza continued briefing the rest of the team on all the knowledge that could possibly help them.
Devlink tapped into his holographic screen. "Satellite connection up," he reported to the leader, whom nodded to show he heard.
"Right then," the captain cracked his knuckles, "let's catch these buggers."
