Chapter 3: News
I wake up again, as usual. I start to think about the earthquake again. "Stop it Rose Lynn!" I tell myself. I can't be thinking about this, it just gives me panic attacks. I decide to climb out if bed and put on some clean clothes, oh wait, I don't have but one outfit, I forgot, I am poor. Instead I just wash my dirty clothes while wearing one of my mothers feed sack dresses. The day goes on, same old usual, don't think you want to hear about my daily life again. But something interesting happens, my father comes home from the state capitol...with some news.
"I have called this family meeting because I have some news from the capitol. While I was there today straightening some things out about our taxes, Governor Willis wanted to talk to me. We go way back, but that's not important. What's important is this news he told he to tell all farm land owners. Danger lies in our path. The earthquake that happened two days ago has caused more damage then we thought. Somehow the meteorologists can measure the intensity of the earthquake...well they now have a device that can sense when an earthquake is about to strike. We are all in danger, especially farm land owners, because of all our crops...an earthquake will strike us tomorrow night. We must evacuate as soon as possible. There's not much time. Hurry."
