Chapter 13
"I, um..." he stammers.
"Why are you staring at me again?" I ask.
"I, no reason, just, feel like it." he said looking at his hands.
I stand up.
"You're lying." I say in a teasing tone.
"No I'm not." he puts his hands on his hips.
"Are too."
"Am not!"
"Are too." I say walking closer to him.
"I am not! And so what if I was looking at you, you don't know what I was thinking." he spits.
"What were you thinking then?" I ask becoming annoyed.
"I was thinking about how ugly and bitchy you are, and how you'll never be with anyone." He growls. I stare at him with sad eyes.
I push past him and run up the stairs.
I lock my door and sit on my bed. I feel like I'm going to cry but nothing comes out. I just feel...
Empty.
Empty, broken and meaningless all at the same time. I look to my bedside table and open the drawer. I pull out the small blade when someone knocks on the door. I look over and sigh. I get up holding the blade and walk to my window.
I push it open and crawl out onto the roof. I sit down and stare out into the darkness. I see windows lit with happy families sharing dinner together.
I wish I had a family around me.
I notice the rain when it really starts to come down. It pours and I'm left in the rain waiting for something, someone, anything.
Thunder sounds and lightening strikes.
Harry finally gets in and I hear the door swing open hitting the wall.
"Alex! Alex!" he calls running around the room. I keep my eyes looking forward turning the blade over in my hands.
He comes to the window frame and yells over the thunder and the noise of the wind swaying the trees back and forth.
"Alex! What are you doing?" he yells and I stay quiet.
"Alex!" he yells again and I move down the roof further away from him.
"Alex! Please don't! It isn't worth it!" he yells as I keep moving closer.
I stare out ahead of me and wipe my face realizing there were tears among the small droplets.
I feel hands around me pulling me towards the window. I stay quiet sobbing as Harry and I fall to the ground in a soaked mess.
He shuts the window and turns to me with fire in his eyes.
"What the hell is the matter with you? Will a day pass when you don't try to kill yourself!" he yells and I stay quiet.
"Alex!" he yells.
"I just want a family." I say quietly.
"What?" he yells again.
"I-I wasn't gunna do anything, I was just looking at the happy family across the street. An-And I want that too." I say with my head down.
"What do you mean? You have a family!" he says.
"Well I don't see any family around. My parents are always in Africa or some poor country and they leave me home. And when they do come home it's for a week or two and then they're gone again. I see my parents for about 2 months out of the year." I say.
