Chapter 4:
Carina:
I was just entering the Great Hall for dinner the next day when I stopped short as I heard Angelina Johnson's sharp and fierce voice hiss, "Tell her You-Know-Who's a figment of your imagination if you like, just make sure you're there!"
I watched with amusement as she turned around, pushed past me and walked off.
"Well that was unnecessary" I muttered, following a very pissed off Potter inside the Great Hall rubbing my shoulder.
"You know what?" Potter said then, as his two faithful sidekicks joined him at the doors, "I think we'd better check with Puddlemere United whether Oliver Wood has been killed during a training session, because Angelina seems to be channelling his spirit!"
I burst out laughing, which in hindsight wasn't a good idea since I was essentially eavesdropping on a private conversation, the trio turned to me with stunned expressions.
Oh well, I was busted anyway.
"Nice one Potter!" I said, still laughing, everyone knew how passionate Oliver Wood was about Quidditch. Harry has just begun to open to his mouth when I put up a hand to stop him. "Don't sweat it, the only person I would be recounting this conversation to is probably Daph." I reassured him, a smile still on my face, "I love it when you're sassy." I said and then traipsed over to the Slytherin table.
"You look way too happy after the day we've had." Daphne commented as I took a seat next to her, "I didn't know Bowtruckles made you that happy."
"Well they are kinda cute." I murmured, but gave her a bright smile, "But I'm laughing about something else."
Daphne returned my smile as she saw me piling my plate with food, "What is it?"
"I just overheard Potter lay a very sick burn on-"
"Potter laid a what now?" a deep voice said, from behind us and I rolled my eyes.
"Piss off, Malfoy!" I said, giving him a wide smile, he just ignored me, going over to sit opposite us.
"Did Potter bother you again?" he asked, his eyes straying to my half-full plate with satisfaction.
"No." I said, "And I can handle him myself, thank-you very much."
"I know you can." He said, shrugging, "I just like annoying him too."
I gave him a stiff smile, before turning to Daph, "I like the new teacher more than Hagrid."
Daphne nodded, "Maybe he won't ever teach us again," she murmured, "after the Rita Skeetar article last year..."
"You're damn right he won't teach us again!" Malfoy said passionately, "Didn't you hear me in class? I said my fath-"
"We heard you." I interrupted him, not in the mood for another, Malfoy gloating speech, "Now let me have my dinner in silence."
Malfoy looked irritated for a minute, before a smirk came over his face, "Oh yes." He said, "You better have your dinner."
I looked away and decided to just finish dinner and go away, but just as I was on my last bite someone dumped more mashed potatoes on my plate and I looked up to see Malfoy looking at me with a smirk, "Oh there is some more left on your plate, Hadley." He said, innocently, "You might want to finish that."
My lips parted in surprise at him, before I blinked and looked down at my plate where a small portion of potatoes now sat. I gulped, I was full. Albeit I hadn't eaten much, but we were having dinner fairly early and for a change Daphne hadn't noticed me pile my plate with less food than usual because for the first time since coming here I had served myself. It was usually her doing it for me.
