Numbness

IT WAS SUDDEN, but she didn't make a sound as she fell to the dirt floor. The man who had yelled at her was now behind her. Grinning, his jagged and yellow teeth looking back at her. He chuckled at her emotionless and robotic reaction.
He sent another hit, but this time, to her ribs. Her teeth hissed from the impact but she kept quiet and didn't scream. She knew better.
The man laughed again and walked away, leaving Evelyn lying on the floor.
She only felt numbness. The feeling of feeling nothing. It was like being thrown into a void. You couldn't see the bottom so you never knew when you hit the ground. Never knowing if you were dead and if you were indeed dead, where were you? It was a tingle that ran through her bloodstream, causing her body to become frozen, unable to do anything. It was like her brain stopped working, only letting her see what was going on before her.
